I was a regular over at TB during the era when the Fearful evolved from a Carvin cab to the final design. In the end it was similar to the rigs I'd been using for a while (my own designs) of a JBL2226 crossing to a B&C coax. I've never been given any useful info why they are better than other drivers so I won't pony up for them. The inductance is quite high on most of them with no mitigation indicated in the driver specs.Already built similar designs several years ago using the kappalite woofers. Just need an excuse to try a phl driver lol. It's hard to beat eminence and b&c for value though. Just always wondered if they offer anything unique in performance.
For a really good drivers, look at the Acoustic Elegance TD12M or 15M. Made in Wisconsin. I'd still go 2 way with a 15X and a 6M.
I was also a regular from '01 to '11. I made a 15/6/1 format box before the Carvin came out on the market. I think I missed a business opportunity. Nice rig by the way. A coax does a lot of things right.
I always shy away from AE for some reason. I look at their drivers then end up with something else. Maybe it's time to try some out.

I'm not sure you did. Unfortunately a large section of the market still believes the best sound comes from things like 8x10's and vintage Fender Ps.I was also a regular from '01 to '11. I made a 15/6/1 format box before the Carvin came out on the market. I think I missed a business opportunity.
Thanks. I designed it because there was nothing on the market I liked that worked the way I wanted. My instruments of choice also tended to help selection: I've had Steinberger and Status basses for a long, long time - love that carbon fibre.Nice rig by the way. A coax does a lot of things right.
I have 8 15's and 4 10s in the system, so I'm a bit of a fanboy. They are very clean drivers, which oddly is why I think some people don't like them. I'd still try them in a BG rig if I were still playing out as I think 'tone' in a BG speaker is overrated, it should come from you and electronics can easily 'effect' the sound if you need it for something.I always shy away from AE for some reason. I look at their drivers then end up with something else. Maybe it's time to try some out.
Status basses are killer...some of the best tone I've heard anywhere. I agree that tone in bass cabs is overrated. Plugging a bass into that AE herd would be quite a treat. Easier to get than PHL too...
Now here's a video of a PHL 10" to make up for the slight detour lol.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
Not developed as a (studio)monitor, but could be used as such.
8" and 15" are PHL, tweeter is a custom ScanSpeak.
For less than the price of Wilson's desktop speakers (TuneTot), you could buy these 140 kg full-range monsters from a company that's been making loudspeakers for over 70 years.

A review of this loudspeaker was published in Germans magazine "STEREO" between 1997 and 1999. Who know the issue so as the exact URL of the associated website ? Thank you for an advice.

PHL audio can be bought on THP as they are the sole distributor outside china for small quantities: https://en.toutlehautparleur.com/univers-des-marques/phl-audio.html
Big quantities can be bought direct from the company.
