You guys must be hard up for excitement to to play with a so so sounding Quasi-Complementary piece of junk like this. For its day it was ok I guess, nothng to write home about.
How about something cheap to buy and probably a heck of a lot better sounding? Lets play with commercial amps shall we? Pick up a Altec 9446 or EV 3200 for a song and dance. Its robust power supply in the 90's range is also capable of giving you a tickle if you need it. Side by side with the Flame Linear it probably sounds better and will produce loads of power plus it has a complementary output stage. If your looking for something for bridge mode then flick the switch and she will put out in excess of 1200 watts.

The fun part is that I used to repair these flame throwers back in the early 70's when they first appeared. Thats the B model diagram... its close enough to get an idea of what it is... er I mean was. I just thought I'd post this thread and see what happens..... It was one of the first very powerful amps available to the consumer and it was alot better sounding than the 400 model was. I can't remember if this or the Crown DC-300 was forst on the market... might have been a tie there.
I'm thinking modern semi's and a much larger power supply might just coax a bit better perfromance out of it. There is only so much one can do to it.
Re-doing these old amps is kinda like re-making old movies.....😱

Phase Linear was founded in 1972, years after Crown's production run of the DC300A began. Crown was generating the DC300A on a production line by 1969.

If Netlist could send me a higher resolution version of the image and someone could send me an actual picture of the bottom of the pcb I may be able to knock it off in an evening.
Is the Netlist homebrew a copy of the original? I would need measured dimensions of the original pcb image of the bottom of the board to control scale.
I won't guarantee jack but if I have the above, I could give it a shot! The reason I offer; it looks far easier than the Crown DC300A. The Crown was a hard labour session.

My thoughts: the first thing I see is that we need to go through the BOM of the original and look at what parts we need to substitute, and what we replace them with. Once that is done we can look at either reworking Hugo's layout or creating a new one from scratch. Anyone have any pics of the original boards or general internal layout?
I still have the original PCB in front of me.
Give me time to shower it and I'll post pics and the exact dimensions together with the correct schematic.

Also, I never really understood how the input stage works. Q1 and Q2 being the diff-pair but what is the purpose of Q3/Q4? What is D1 and D2 doing? And so on…
