Peavey battery powered amplifier

I have a Peavey Companion guitar amp that is powered by a 12vdc/2A wall wart or by 8 ea. "D" cell batteries. I would like to replace the regular batteries with a rechargeable Lithium ion battery. I am concerned however about overcharging or undercharging the battery and causing problems for myself. I have a boombox that uses just such a system and it has a red light that turns on when the battery needs charging and turns off when it has received a full charge. Is there a economically reasonable option for installing such a system in this guitar amp? Thank you for your help!

My DIY battery amp is powered by 4x18650 LiIon.
These are in an easy accessible battery holder mounted on the backside. I charge them with a universal 4 slot charger, each slot with its separate control. The amp is fitted with an undervoltage lockout that separates the battery before deep discharge takes place.

You buy a for-purpose battery charger. These new chemistries have complex charging needs. You can't DIY anywhere near as fast or cheap as you can buy a charger.

Now if you convert it to a truck batter it is simple. Lead-Acid is nasty to transport but very tolerant of crude charging. (Tho again, you can buy a charger about as cheap as you could DIY.)
