Where did you find the time to do this, Wayne?
Maybe Wayne is doing things you are not paying him for

I am not Wayne's employer. I have partial ownership of a
semi-autonomous corporation which has a subsidiary in the
Cayman Islands carrying limited lease-to-buy rights on his
original genetics.
I get a great tax break that way.
this statement (more than any others i have read from you) is really complimented by your avatar! kinda creepy

Is the right to clone him if the need arises included ?
If you need me to go to the Cayman Islands to help move your bags of money around, I will be there for you.
We only traffic in information. We are using the Caymans
until the orbital data haven has been prepared.

Question 2: can the 2SK389 be replaced with 2 matched 2SK170s?
I think you can but you should mount them "face to face" because of the thermic stability.
.... or use EUVL's coupling/heatsink device

You don't even need to match them as they run in parallel (just like the K170-quad at the input) and not in a differential pair.
Also the quad at the input is not matched in the original article as you see from the different voltages across the source resistors - matching also not necessary or helpfull.
Have fun, Hannes
Here is the Pearl Two schematic. You will have to wait for values.
Not fair!
