PCB for TDA1541A DAC Project

tubesguy: I came accross the Curcio board searching the web. Looks like a decent design, but I want to go with a true tubed output rather than a JFET tube buffered design. Might be worthwhile to use the PCB for power and DAC with a seperate board for the output?? Thanks for the reply 🙂

Scott: I bought one of your DACKITs preassembled a few months back when I was still living on Guam. Been looking at the tubed output with T's sinc filter lately, but my DACKIT is still on a ship somewhere out in the Pacific Ocean so I'll probably wait till it gets here for the output project.

Good news about the 1541A board... I've been hoarding some S1 chips recently. Up to 6 so far 🙂 Been thinking about a crazy DIY Zanden style mega parallel 1541a setup. Too dang expensive though!!!

Keep us posted on the PCB. I'll definitely be ordering a few 🙂

Any idea on the design yet?? Send a private mail if you don't want to "go public" just yet.

Does anyone know where to get a PCB for a TDA1541A DAC project?? I can do the assembly, but would prefer to leave the board design to someone with more experience with DACs.

I would STRONGLY suggest against using PCB's. I have experiemnted myself and I find PCB's to rather reliably give a strong sonic degradation. This is worst for Fiberglass PCB's, less so for the brown pertinax PCB material and least but still notable for PTFE, when compared to hardwiring.

I figure this is the result of a combination of microphonics and the hygroscopic behaviour of the PCB Material. But basically and in short, in the interest of sund quality - avoid PCB's like a Vampire avoids Garlic, Crosses and Stakes.

Simply take a nice slab of copper, glue the chips on there "dead bug" style (legs up) and hardwire...

How do you think chips secured by soldering their legs on Veroboard pads - then legs and components connected by hardwiring would work out?

Dear TV man,

this is the tube buffer test print of the twins TDA1541a version II pcb.


This new PCB was added battery bias for 6C45/6Dj8 SRPP tube buffer. Also one more socket was added about for it. It is in Tube rectifier place. Then this pcb can use ez80,81.we412a & 6x4 tube.

Pedja Rogic has a very nice board for sale. He is very fair to deal with and is a gentleman. I have nothing but praise for the way he dealt with me.
