If the DAC had no USB isolation and single-ended outputs were used, the ground loop currents would still go from the PC USB ground -> USB cable ground wire -> DAC (here partly back to the PC because the DAC is class I) -> class I amp through the signal interconnect -> amp PE wire -> PC PE wire. Noise around USB port ground will be different though.

I plan to use optical because of the fault. Should have the DAC soon and will play and see if the music is still musical and hopefully dead quiet when it should be.
(Might try the USB and see if its the same afterward, as a test)

Well, Gustard x16 installed. Total silence from optical and USB, with the soundcard removed. Vastly improved sound from anything I play.
Have sent the card back to the supplier for repair/replacement, hopefully will get a new one in box I can sell since it's only a few months old. Thankyou for all the help.
