Past 2 way build and looking to build the same one but, with better parts and drivers.

Good morning everyone. So I built a 2 way for my dad coming up on 15 or 16 years now? I used a Silver Flute 6 1/2 inch driver at 8 ohms model number # W17RC38-08.Then I used a Sea’s Textile dome tweeter model # 27TDC (H1149). I used mills resistors and Aircap in the tweeters path. I can’t remember how I did the woofers? I think it was with Aircap as well? It’s been along time? I built a rear ported standing box with a top and bottom sealed sand storage chambers. Has helped with vibration and discoloration in the souls plus they are heavy. So now fast forward to today. My wife as asked me to build her a pair identical to the ones I made my dad. I want to do a few things differently and do the basic 2 way but, with a sea’s tweeter and a different woofer? Any thoughts? Thanks Jeff

I will have to dig up a picture the build. I can’t remember the crossover point. The late (Eric chandelier) From Partsexpress designed and made the box for my speaker I built for my dad and could be over 16 years now? I have built a lot of speakers with fullrange drivers but, crossovers has been a thing of the past’s and I have not delt with in awhile. I can do a proven design no problem but, my wife asked me years ago to make a speaker like my dads and that’s we’re am at. I could do a SB acoustics design and go from there? Jeff

What's most important to the missus about that speaker? The overall type and size of the cabinet, or matching as closely as possible how it specifically looked, how it sounded (any bias in the timbre - bright, solid in the bass, good at brass, etc., liking the way the specific drivers looked (if no grill cover), etc.?

What’s important is that I built it and it sounds good. As for grills I didn’t make any. She also like the small foot print of the box size. It was 36” inch tall by 8” inch wide by 6” or 7” inch’s deep. Rear ported of course. I put sealed sand traps at the top and bottom of the box’s. Really helped out with deading the vibration and sound in the cabinets. I used 3/4’s russian bitch plywood and counter sinked both drivers in the front baffle. I have liked the seas driver’s due to a wire came undone in the left tweeter and I soldered it back on and no problems ever senc. It happened. The only think at concerns me is the sticky coating of some of the seas driver’s? I used the more expensive textdome tweeters in my dads build years ago. I also have been looking at the visaton speakers and might go with them? Still researching and looking at all my options. Jeff

Here’s a few pictures not great but, you get the idea.

We’ll that’s a good question? I have no idea? but, am guessing around 2,600 khz I have pictures of the crossovers but, I can’t remember the cut off frequency? I have the big solen cap (Black with White writing) + mills resistor (green) and An Audio caps are are(yellow with red writing). I know these were around $25.00 each at the time I bought them. I would say for each crossover it would have costed me $60.00 each with the speaker wire I used to wire them up. Soldered point to point. So Audio caps and mills resistor are on the seas tweeters and the Solen caps are on the silver flute woofers. I think each box weights around 67 pounds. I think there is 30 pounds of sand in each speaker box.
