Finding good music is tough. One of the things I do is
purchase lots of "compilation" disks in various genres
and then search out the artists whose tunes I liked.
I wish I had a wide bandwidth internet connection, because
guys like Amazon will let you take a quick listen, but at
12 Kbs phone lines in Foresthill

I thought I had the slowest connection on this forum (56K modem) 😀
But I'm on ADSL since a week, really nice (when I'm not browsing the forum, I'm playing Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory 😀)

Well there is always Direct View PC and others.. bump you up to 412KBS.

How about satellite download. Friend of mine uses it. It leaves broadband in the dust for download and is not expensive in terms of performance. Don't know about prices in the US but in UK his monthly costs are comparable to broadband if using dialup to upload and satellite to download.
Hardware is one satellite dish with relevant LNB and a PCI card. Just a thought.

Satellite is expensive here, about $600-700 for the equipment and about double to triple the cost of DSL or cable per month.
Had the Satellite. Hated it.
It's OK, though, I only check email, forums and the odd
mfr site. I don't need porn, mp3's or movies, as I make my own.

I can get DSL or Cable for about the same price at upstate NY. We never need to buy the modem and if you are good you can do it for about 30-40 a month. If you got a router with couple co-inhabitants, the deal is even better.
However, I must agree with Mr. Nelsen. 98% of stuff I get off my connection is trash. It takes a master surfer to effectively extract good 2%. And, I am mere an apprentice.
