Pass Labs Internship

Nelson,

Would it be in your interest to have an International Student Internship? I need to do a half-year internship for my University graduation, in the field of Electrical Engineering.

Might not be the usual way to apply for a job, but hey... Never tried, never won 😉

Count me in for applications!

During senior year, I had managed to nail a position at Crown Audio... but due to budget restrictions, my position as well as another newbie's was cut. Talk about disappointment... :bawling: The tour of the plant was still worth the 5 hour drive though 😉

My goal is still to get into the audio industry, but it's rather difficult to get any job with the given job market... so I'm waiting things out at my current employer (which is actually turning out to be somewhat enjoyable after being here for a year...)

But if there is an opportunity, I'm willing to leap at it!

Gratakus suggestion is probably sensible.

As I have to do a practical semester for EE just like you too:
Did you try to contact other interesting companies so far?

I think I´d need another 2 semesters till then but it´d be cool to exchange some ideas.

Cheers
Jens

I have a leaf-raking internship opening this fall in the Baltimore/DC area.

There's no pay, but you'd be in the great outdoors in the most picturesque time of the year. And you could listen to the unique sound of gainclones, from inside, filtered through our exclusive double-hung window-shaped filters...

Applications are pouring in, so don't be shy about bribes - we love bribes.

p.s. Oh, and bring your own rake and bags...

It was a joke.

A J O K E . 🙂

Seriously, tho, I worked my way through several internships during and after college, and I highly recommend getting them however you can.

They need not be formal, either. Start off with a company in your area, and set up a regular time after classes when you can go and just make yourself useful and hang out and learn (and learn and learn.) If you are in the DC/Balt area, I have a suggestion as to where to start.

Spring breaks are for reaching out of your geographic area a little. Make calls early in the calendar year to try to get permission to visit for a week - no pay - and, if you are lucky, describe yourself pathetically as a poor-but-eager student who really wants to learn and try to get a floor or couch to crash on in an designer or engineer's home for the week. Or make a local friend thru DIY Audio who'll let you crash a few days.

I did this several times, successfully, as a college photojournalism student. The experiences were invaluable.

They also led to multiple full internships and two job offers, from which I got to choose, in what was considered a tight market for new job seekers.

I highly recommend the process.

Please understand that I would not want to discourage anyone
from getting into this industry if they happen to love it. You
can always find some local company and work for free for a
while, if that's what it takes. In my case, I started a tiny
company, but quickly moved to ESS, which was like a roller-
coaster.

People who came out of ESS were of two types: those
who learned to do it that way and those who learned to not
do it that way. I am in the latter group.

Nelson, what would you say/advice to a student wanting to work in this industry?

Bakmeel,

There are more companies in the world than Pass.
In the UK there are a lot and it's closer to Holland.
Try Rega (Crawley, which is near to London Gatwick, you can fly cheap with easyjet), Linn (up north) or KEFF or .....

In the UK you may get more holidays too!

By the way, I went to HTS Rijswijk and 1 of the students did a job at Audio & Techniek, you know this J van der S. (Hawk Audio)
This guy appeared to be the ultimate *******.
In the final interview he DID NOT support the student. He acted against him and the student did not graduate, had to find another company for his "afstudeeropdracht". It costed him 6 months!
Be aware of what kind of people you meet! In this business there are strange arrogant people around.
