Mysterious Gold Box
It's a small nitrogen laser cartridge. Self contained (except for the PSU), sealed optics, designed to be really easy to swap out and rebuild.
I think they are mostly used in Mass Spectrometers.
Cheers!

I have the box now. I will inventory the box, and spend some time repacking and trimming down the wasted space. I also have some goodies to drop into the box. I was curious did everybody want to upgrade to the next size flat rate box?

I feel terrible.
Back in February 2010 I was sent a migratory box of electronic junk by a kind gentleman:
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/swap...ratory-box-electonic-junk-20.html#post2089936
Then I moved house. After that... I guess I simply forgot. Fast-forward 2 1/2 years to today, and picture my shock when, unexpectedly, I uncover a migratory box of electronic junk amongst my other boxes of wires n bits n bobs. It would appear that I took and subsequently hoarded the whole box. I owe everyone an apology for that. Sorry.
It's a very nice box, too, complete with gajillions of resistors.
Can I interest anyone in a slow-moving (but once again migratory) box of electronic junk?

I want to get in on the migratory box but am a little confused as to how many boxes are out there and how I go about getting on the list. If there is still room in the box I have lots to add to it.

Put me in on that too. I'm a pack-rat W/2 much electronic equip. If its speaker, receiver parts, I got it. Let someone with enthusiasm have a break.😀
I am sitting on a box as we speak. I will re stock, and tidy it up this week.
Lets start a new list now:
I looked back and see I was the last known person to be on the list.
guys pm me with your contact info and I will send out a box.

Can I ask how big/heavy it's gotten? How much to ship? Hipcheck: You said you were sitting on it. I hope you don't mean literally!
It might be convenient to have it ship to a city representative, and have other diyAUDIO people from that city have a go at it.

This most recent box was a large Priority Mail flat rate. It was pretty much maxed out last we read unless some room has been made. There was mention of upgrading to a larger box for a higher shipping cost unless we goto parcel post.
I had several pm's and will update a list of who gets it next, and so on.
The box had seemed really depleted when I got it.
I will post an update and will fork out for the larger box. I plan to restock it and provide some much needed order to its contents, it was stuffed and barely able to be slammed shut when I got it.
Will get mailed out this weekend, sorry for my delay!

There are many boxes floating around, look here. Wouldn't this kind of sharing work out better as a swap registry? I have lots of old DIP8 chips that would probably get destroyed in a box with a bunch of other metal parts. On a side note, if there is anyone in the NY area that can do FET curve trace matching pm me. We'll split the matching sets.
