Paris 2024 Olympics -- go now?

I learnt some countries censured some moments because they were chocked, I hope to see the integral on YouTube, country of the first amendment 🙂

Btw there are here policemen from all the world to help with turists as 1750 cops from Los Angeles ! 😎

There is also a lot of french bashing in some countries (US is not the last) , whatever we do we do bad, epecially when it is talked by England... traditional love-hate relation (essentaily low people w/o culture and paper mass medias because it makes monney - cultured people whom are a little international on each side of the Channel are not like that at all)
If it weren't for the French fleet, Americans would be eating beans on their toast, fried tomatoes and fatty sausages for breakfast (and we'd all have bad teeth).

This will be the first year in over 20 that we won't make it (sans 2020 and COVID).

I would buy a really big TV, and a build a nice sound system with the money.

Paris is not what it used to be, too much poverty, filth and violent crime.
And like some cities like Toronto and Birmingham, the police dare not enter some ghettos.
So take care, not a really attractive destination, and when a sports event of this magnitude is going on, it will be crowded, with expensive accommodation and food, not always to your choice.

It reminds me of the local group who visited the 'K' exhibition in Germany 20-odd years back, their hotel was 60 km from the site, almost an hour away.
It is a vast exhibition, you need three to four days to walk and cover it totally.
And the food was not quite to their taste, the tour organizer had arranged a special cook, and some of the visitors were of the Jain religion, they do not eat anything that grows underground, like ginger, garlic, onions and so on.
Jain food is tasty, in its own way, they use near substitutes to get the similar taste. But it tends to be more bland than other cooking.
The others wanted spicy food, so there was some grumbling, which subsided after they saw what was on offer at the grounds, (most of the visitors were purely vegetarian), and the sight of meat made them restless.
After that they were like we are counting our blessings, we got food made to our choice at our hotel...

So, if you want to visit, my advice would be to find out if there is available room at your preferred area, and then decide if you want to go.
And see if the price is affordable compared to off season.

I was trying to place the @jackinnj magazine cover. Ah, I have it...

Jacques Tati Mon Oncle.jpg

Jacques Tati in "Mon Oncle", of course. Who could not love French Cinema? 😎

Seems like everybody in France was always seen smoking in those days. In fact it established your arty credentials.

TBH, there was little I enjoyed more as a young Englishman in search of culture than posing in a cafe on the Rive Gauche in Paris with a glass and a Gitanes. Pretentious? Qui Moi!?

OK, it is embarrassing.

French Ciggies.jpg

Alas, the French seem to have forgotten their culture. I never see Macron with a ciggie hanging from his lips, never mind wearing a beret or a stripey shirt. 😕

While the French were winning Le Rugby Olympique in Paris, their horse "Goliath" was also winning England's most premier horse race after The Derby.

Funny how you can always see it with hindsight... we thought Goliath always lost. 😡

I think you mix Paris and a part of his suburb. There are no gethos or place Police doesn't enter in Paris.

At the opposit it became more and more expensive and popular people went outside but some rare minorities that live in social blocks with low rentals.

Criminality is due for the very most part from illegal immigration from Middle-orient and sub-saharian Africa/north-Africa and far east that opers in small groups.

I agree it becames dirty, because also Paris is an area of travel to go to work (think about the tube/metro which is very dirty I find, more than when I studied and lived there. Dangerous, but maybe at nigth, not really : it is the first town for the numbers of turists with NYC if my memory serves me well.

I did not find India I love (I back packed a lot in India) cleaner or less dangerous, you want not be a travelling woman there. There are progress in some cities though like the modern part of Dehli ( I know a delicious populr irestaurant in the second ring of the Connaugth place (was always the only western people there) and even tried the cheese-burger with Lamb from Mac Donald there ! I am found of indian music btw and beautifull country too 🙂

The French border is 20 miles from my place and then another 200 miles of highway to Paris, so I get there now & then.
I do not share your observations, supposed they are your's. Even now the hotels have reserves, they clearly had expected more bizz and complained. They could not keep the olympic prices.

It reminds me of the local group who visited the 'K' exhibition ??????????? in Germany

So what, I cooked sth. like Saltimbocca alla Romana today, with

-veal, to disgruntle the Hindus and veggies in general
-bacon, to disgruntle Arabs and Jews
-potatoes for the Jains
-a bit of cream (not kosher with meat)
Did I forget someone / sth. ?
Oh, yes, wine!
And it was delicious!
Should I limit myself to a pound of salvia officinalis leafs?
My garden would support that now & then.

It's kinda funny how few DNA segments can make the difference between
a goddess and a frying pan. I could have had a water buffalo steak in
Kathmandu w/o problems, but cow or Yacc were sacrosanct.
