Kamura was also a taste "fausse note" (une faute de gout) for me, the sumum of the vulgarity, but seems teenagers like her !

I went there a few days before with my young son, walking from Trocadero to Concorde all the way and thought it wouldn't work and would turn awful. They were late and unorganised as ever ( I had a flat in Paris for 20 years, know the city a tad). Count in the rain and disaster wasn't far (think dancers, acrobats, piano etc.)
Yet it was the best olympic opening I have seen.
The only big negative seemed to be the French channels (France 2 via Chromcast) unable to cope with the high number of connections for the first hour or so (if viewing through a projector at home etc.)
Yes, for me a lot of humour (not to everybody's taste but so French LOL), yes, very colourfull with various people, yes, some symbols weren't that obvious (*) , yes probably not to the taste to everybody especialy conservative or older ones (my stepfather to start with) but such as change from the very conservative and completely old school cliché loaded rugby show - and I LOVE rugby, have been in the statdium watching olympics Rugby 7 on Thursday, was epic in the stadium and on the battle field. Looking forward to it today... spoiler alert LOL
Just IMHO, and yet again I expected a big disaster and waste of money. Only the abrupt end was a bit unexpected: not a Dion fan myself (no flames please, I know I know) plus expected something to come after. Other than that, daring on some topics (but then I am old and like provocation, so I had some big laughs), very mixed and human on all acounts, different and very artistic, small scale and "grandiose"... unexpectedly good despite awful weather.
Claude (loved the masked guy jumping courageously on the roofs - Phantom of the Opera, Arsène Lupin, or Fantomas the assassin??? Who knows...)
(*) The F like it more subtle (or believe so LOL) and complicated (or is it sophisticated?). Who knows what they had in mind, but a few possible hints...Nakamura meeting the Garde Républicaine's orchester and the choir of the F Army is indeed very daring. She isn't my kind of music, but she did well on a very wet surface (believe me, I know the place). Fabulous golden Dior dress, not far from the Art Academy and Money Museum... she walked (sign of respect) towards the others, a symbol of youth and modernism meeting old, the elder surrounding her... she is a black woman friendly welcomed and surrounded by the Republic Guard so to speak... All this can't be coincidence, but God knows exactly what they had in mind se symbolic LOL. Have probably to see the show again on TV to note all the symbols, nothing was coincidence, but probably to elaborated for a quick glance.

Guess F doesn't even have the excuse of being upside down like our great Aussie friends LOL!
Nah, moving on to the sport, Rugby 7 this afternoon will be fab!
Have fun guys

I really like Paris, so it was a real shame an Aussie woman was gang raped there a week or so ago. A bizarre crime. Who gets off on that? C-word plural.
Unless you are actually going to the Olympics, it would make good sense to avoid Paris during the Games.
For sure ! ! ! 😱
T
We have terrible problems with illégal imigration from Orient, Africa, Mahgreb, and far East Europe as Central Asia there as well as a little part of the légal ones of those areas in youngs people that are brainless. Also hard drugs that flood all the western countries. Ineficient Police when there are more than 2 people to control and wokist judges in their clean crystal towers. It is a very sad situation.I really like Paris, so it was a real shame an Aussie woman was gang raped there a week or so ago. A bizarre crime. Who gets off on that? C-word plural.
It is touching Europe as well, à lot France, Italie , England, the most.
@ClaudeG, i have found France2 TV has not filmed well. They had drones restriction imo because security. We had rare views from the sky, a pity.
I believe it is a good sumary you wrote. The show was full of symbols, a little wokist side though, but most of the clichés were avoided. Very oriented towards youth people that are the futur of the world and societies after all, at least the moderns and free ones.
Enjoy the shows.
Mel Brooks in "History of the World Part 2" -- "Count de Monnaie"There was certainly a pun in her gold dress as she was in front of the "Monnaie of Paris" monument, the place where coins and monney were made (and still are for the masterpieces).
UK Spectator opines on the opening ceremony: "It was all very decadent, yes, but not in the way it thinks it was. Because this wasn’t French at all, but a display of American cultural imperialism, the goading and the power display of wokeness, establishing the new sacred – ...Like all of this culture, it was contemptuous, shambolic (the Olympic flag was flown upside down) and pompous.."
There is also a lot of french bashing in some countries (US is not the last) , whatever we do we do bad, epecially when it is talked by England... traditional love-hate relation (essentaily low people w/o culture and paper mass medias because it makes monney - cultured people whom are a little international on each side of the Channel are not like that at all)
But yes, I think they wanted to do it a littlle Chanel brand modernity that is in fact awful and mauvais goût (because this is most of what want young counsumers: to be seen) à la Farel William after all (many of the suits on the podium were made second hands btw and not serious as a road map desire - symbols again; like Philippe Katerin a very fun guy who hate to be serious and was naked blue Dyonisos : think to french wine - which is not haute couture : paradox again 😉 -singing people are equals when nude and they can NOT hide a gun or where it is difficut to hide, ahahaha (literally the words of the song) ! I liked that myself.
They wanted to avoid the main clichés of baguette, camembert and 2 CV but finally ended with RAP clip parody with all its clichés as well which were too much there imho as the UK sentences above said well. A poor modernity which is in fact not modern and not so avant guarde but with universality in mind! (that's how it is, teenagers read mangas and listen to rap... but not only, depend the family and social substrate as in every country)But also an answer to the dictatures all over the world to say ; here prople do like they want, free and have fun... and not glued into old traditions and believes... sort of !
On a good side : atmosphere was very good, there was a lot of legacy towards sportive people and others countries (I liked Usain Bolt who is so fast on soild to be so cool and not mobile on the boat (there were imo humor in many moments), some moment were beautifull and after all the main character which was Paris and its Seine river was awesome (very hard to make it bad whatever the show) and here all the world agree but the coldpissssss !
But I fear indeed Olympics became a sorta of Politic moment but it seems it was also the case in antic Greece where the cities whom figth each others needed some pause. Words of philosoph Diogenes about the Olympics are funny and worth a reading 🙂
At least we tried to make it a social universal festive interlude with auto critism more than an ode to the country for all the youngs, but Paris. Mais Paris sera toujours Paris. An old lady that breaked the codes and get old suddenly a lot of countries !

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣Now I am watching the opening ceremonies and wishing we had gone!
First time I have seen Snoop Dog not stoned.
I hope the english understood the nude blue dyonisos with its red barber bashed Prince Harris, lol : a blink eyes to the bashing coming from the old England 🙂 ! But bon enfant blink eyes ! It's ended with The Love Hymn by Celine Dion!
The thought of going into a mad bustle with pushing and shoving crowds. Airports, scrambling around catching trains. No way. I’m done with that. I’ll rather be in a motor home cruising around empty roads in Scotland or Ireland away from the maddening crowds.
I hope to make it across to France next year in April. Norway and Scandinavia on the list as well. Beautiful places!
