Are there any good FM tuner designs on diyaudio (or anywhere else) that you know of.
Single analog challenge i can think of with tuners are the output stages behind the stereo filter
(exchanging opamps in this here forum means a swap to Papa's favorite crud

Couple of years ago Mark Gulbrandsen and me shared a fantasy of cloning a MacIntosh, with the looks of a (Day) Sequerra, including the CRT spectrum display, and the build quality of old series Tek.
(i've had a hard-on for the Sequerra Model 1 (FM reference) since the late '70s, early '80s, just checked, still do)
Service manuals and schematics of thoroughbred tuners such as the MR78 or Dick Sequerra's Model-1 can be freebee downloaded from the web.
(or buy an old Restek Metric/FM3003 tuner for a rehack)

Curious about the F5 clones offered as PCBs. Are they worth messing with and what are the legalities of the situation?

Oh snap!
I didn't know about those.
The reason I asked is because I refuse to buy clones unless it's OK with the original owner of the design.
Thanks!

You'll soon be able to buy an Xed version, also legally :

Cool EUVL
I'm putting an end to my DIY shenanigans and am looking for an amp for my BLH alnico Foster "103" speakers. What I decide on soon is what I will die listening to.
What about this to make the power-supply part easy?
Heavy duty CRC power supply kit for F5 JC3 Aleph etc !! - eBay (item 120500518482 end time Nov-26-10 10:06:41 PST)
I'm really lazy...

Great.
How does the balance operation effect my choice of a pre-amp?
I'm guessing that I'll need one with balanced output.

Yeah I could be interested in that.
Believe it or not apparently this is quite good and can be modded - Sony XDR-F1HD. Has anyone played with it?
It looks like it uses an NXP chip but I don't know which one.

or an input transformer on the amp.
If you are prepared to use transformer at all, you might as well use a tranformer preamp, either totally passive (if your source can drive it), or one of Susan Parker's.
Attached one from the old Blowtorch thread -- passive Tx + source follower buffer.

Does anyone know what the specs of the new Seas (cheap version) full range driver are?
Also when will they be available?
Also when will they be available?
Efficiency, low to mid 90's, 8 ohms.
$125 sometime around the end of the year.
Here's are curves of mine in an OB as seen at BAF 10
days ago.

$125 sounds good.
Low to mid 90's sounds good too. Hopefully they are at least 93dB.
I might passively cross these over at about 300Hz with a first order crossover and use 2 x 10" for bass duties.
