There are still some very good handmade cigars being rolled in Miami by the original Cuban cigar rollers. Though they are getting a little old by now. The rollers not the cigars.
Many of the finer types are made upon request. If you take a flight to South Florida and ask any Cuban/American cab driver they will drop you at the door. The facility is very modest. And you will not be spending 40.00 per.
It is really incredible how much time is spent on one cigar. They use the same old triangle cutters and the tables are deeply etched from decades of cutting leaves. I do not believe these skills are taught in todays classrooms.
I really do not know why the U.S does not open it's doors up to Cuba. With a little global investment the last true pristine area in the caribbean could again be a very nice relaxing place to visit. There are few islands this close to Florida that have 3300 foot mountains on them. I hate that I was never able to visit this area when living in South Florida as a youth. It would have been just a short day sail from Key Biscayne.

Hi
While looking at BAF photos, there was something that caught my attention: BOB, actually its backside... 😀
I noticed something that looks like a simple first order passive crossover, with just a coil and a cap. Wouldn't be surprised to find out it's a simple series one... 😱
Maybe a current source filter?
It was actually a full passive crossover on the Lowther/Eminence combination. Papa mentioned he used a passive crossover with a simple coil and cap.
The current source network was on the Seas part, but it was connected near the amp output.
The J2 and M2 were there and looking quite delicious. I know we are diyers but I wouldn't mind owning those at all!

Tad, go anyway, youll probably find it has a little more charm the way it is. I have friends that have travelled to Cuba and loved it. If you do go get me a cigar please🙂

Waaaaaaaay off topic guys. Cuban cigars are a myth anyway's with many preferring Dominican stogies. Not that I would inhale again.
So, I'll ask it, what project does Nelson have in mind for the SemiSoth SIT's...?
After the mythical Yamaha B1 like digital DO domain?
Something commercial I imagine. 🙂

I don't think there will be big changes in topology, but since now we have a different (better) device, it will be possible to realize solid-state amplifiers with less feedback which must reflect in better sonic. Nelson might be tempted to revise many of his existing amplifier designs and modify them so they will utilize SIT's. For me, the most preferred option would be to have an F2-like amp (and it may be closest to tube SET-s)😎
In the presentation, he counted about 6 stages in the Yamaha amp... You can bet your house on the fact that Papa won't use that topology.
The question I've been trying to answer is why hasn't anyone thought of this before. Make your own devices to replace lousier ones. I'm guessing it isn't as easy as it looks and there must be some genius involved on Papa's part.

you bet ......
just consider amount of greenies , needed to pump in that project ;
last time I heard for similar approach , was when David Manley asked boyz at EI RC to make toob for VTL ;
and KT90 was born .

I'm sure lots of folks think about it but it is likely to be very expensive and out of reach for most small manufacturers especially considering what minimum orders must be for a part like that.

A SiC SIT - perhaps the first time in history that a SS device can claim to be able to replace a tube.
Maybe Nelson will offer a new DIY project and make the parts available for us sometimes before 25th December ? :

I don't think its all about the money. There are lots of folks who can splash the cash for this sort of thing. There's got to be more to it.

Certainly there is. You have to know what you want, how to use it, and where to get it.
Obviously Papa knows he wants a Fuh..,Fuhh...ihh, sorry, i just can't get it out.
He also knows how to use it, where to get it.
He's just clueless where to park it, there's also how to get Mrs P to approve.
FETs, FETs, FETs. See, i can easily manage that.

OT it might be, I must insert that Cuban cigars are not a myth! Many are not all that good, like with everything. The best of them are the best, expensive thought they may be. ( They are not cheap, even in cuba for the best) dominican? Most Cuban cigar smokers would disagree. Hounduran? Possibly. Most of the Dominican offerings are light tasting in comparison.
OK, I'm done!

To quote Nelson, the choice was between Ferrari or PassFets. I do not think these will be available any time soon to the DIY. Once you make that kind of investment, logically you have to look for the return first.
😀
WOW! That's commitment! Hopefully they will be available at some point to DIY. If a Ferrari was looked over, these things must be excellent! After all, return can be made from us.....who wouldnt spend a little extra to have the actual Pass parts? Unless they are a replacement for the now used output mosfets, I wouldnt know what to do with them anyway.😕 Very exciting this!
