Oxidation problem of copper strips in ESL

Hi,

@Wachara. uups, answered too quick.
I´d put the copper strip (self adhesive or not) on the diaphragm and coat it as usual, i.e with some more coating fluid covering the rim of the copper strip. On top of the strip and overlapping to the diaphragm I´d use the soaked paper strip.

Hi there Wachara, I'm wiping the ends of my DIY solid copper speaker cable just with damped cloth of my wife's hairspray-, it contains benzene..thing, good for anti tarnish. but first lightly sanding the copper with #600, 800 then cleaning with acetone.

Hello,

I recently found a problem with my ESL. The copper strips which I put around the ESL for biasing the diaphragm turn green and do not conduct very well. Indeed the climate in my country is very humid. What should I do to prevent this oxidation?

Wachara C.

Hello Wachara,

I have had the same problem before.
My attempt to prevent it is like this :
I put the mylar film on one stator and the copper foil ring (copper foil
of 8mm width I bought in a chop for "Tyffany" glas hobby). This is a
foil with adhesive backing. I stick it approximately in the middle of the
border of the opposing stator. After that I use solder to tin the surface
of the copperring. Since this is never very flat, I sand it with a dremmel
to remove the brims. THen (after applying the coating on the membrane)
I clamp the 2 stators together with 12 plastic clamps (30cm long, the kind used for fixing booklets and brochures).
This way I can open up the ESL to clean or reapply coating if necessary and
inspect or clean the copper ring.

I tried the pva glue, water and grapite idea and it seems to work good. jer
