Thanks, Jeff. 🙂
Just my own listening experience, but I found my speakers sounded awful with a Morel CAT 298 soft dome tweeter.
I have moved on to cone tweeters (below) with a third order tweeter filter at 3.5kHz. Much more real sounding IMO, and the Monacor with a metal centre dome is smoother than the Visaton TW70. Some dispersion issues and I'm still doing stuff to tune them up, but a lot of fun, and at £6 a pop, well, who's arguing? 🙂

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

... they certainly have some very good qualities. Including vented polepieces.
Improves powerhandling, but can create a lower frequency oil can resonance... i tend to avoid them, or block them off.

OK, I buy into your greater experience here, Dave.
So that means my unvented retro (and Tannoy-like) Sony bass/mid units may be as good as it gets?

But dammit, they don't make 'em like this anymore. 😡
BTW, I'm sure you share my enthusiasm for cone tweeters, which is what your favoured little Fostex (106E IIRC) unit is.
