Hi,
I'm new to this, but very eager to start. Would appreciate any comments on this screen...
7" LCD display
I read somewhere that xga is good, and vga obsolete(?)
I want to start off with the OHP route, so basically, is this screen a decent price/purchase?
I can spend up to £150 ($270)
Any other suggestions?
Thanks v much.

The lcd screen is superb but price is not... It looked a bit expensive to me.
BTW, I seen some stripping pics (bottom of the page) and I thought this panel is not ok for diy projector project, because of edge cables...
But I am not sure..

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
But I am not sure..

Thanks for input Housemachine, but I'm glad to say those pictures (on english version of page) are of other panels:
'Many displays have soldered data connections. We get support inquiries whether such displays can be used generally. We dissuade therefrom. Transmission errors from panel to the controller are to be expected here to 95% of the cases (see pictures).'
The text goes on to explain:
In comparison with other 7" TFTs this one is very easily disassemblied. Already after few minutes ready for use for the DIY-projector !
After 5 min, you have following in the hand: Glasspanel incl. frame and the driver board - you do not need more. All cables are included.
Knowing this, i still would appreciate any more opinions...
Am i right in thinking i could just disassemble this, stick it on a good OHP, box it up and use it?
Thanks.

The specs seem identical to the 7" "XGA" Liliput that many users of this forum are using. It is 800X480, so can be considered vga for regular input, and svga for wide screen. I haven't seen anything with a better resolution for such a small screen. The consensus is that you will hardly feel a difference between this and a true XGA LCD unless your projected screen size is very big.
Looks like a great candidate to replace the liliput, but isn't the price (238 euro) over your budget?

Thank you Romand for your reply.
It is helpful to know you think it is a decent screen. I thought so.
Yes, it is pricey, but in UK finding a decent display panel is difficult. I see US members talking about Sharp panels for $75, etc.
I don't want to fiddle around for ages, dis-assembling a screen, so this one is appealing. I just want something decent I can plug in a dvd, and stick on a OHP.
The price is actually normal compared to screens on ebay and online shops here, or am i looking in the wrong places?
If any UK member knows of a good place to shop here...?
Something good up to £150 (at very most) would be nice.
(Good contrast, resolution, response)
Thanks again.

Thanks,
Have found that one on ebid. £45
Yeah, i suppose it's not incredible but does the job.
Is it 540 colours?
I getting a 3m 9550 OHP, and plan to use it for projection with a live band.
Wondering, is it simple to strip down and attach dvd then?
Any other 'easy to strip' displays out there?
Ta.

Just bought the Panoview 540.
If you don't mind, could i mail you if i have any trouble stripping it?
Cheers.
ah, i see, you got resolution set to 602 'At The Moment'.
I thought it was an optics term... "Set projector to 5000 atms, captain"....duh! 😉

Hi I'm a noob on here
this is my first post but I have been studying this site for months & am amazed at the results & have decided to take the plunge.
After much deliberation I have decided to start off simple I will be using a CTX Panoview 540 & a 250w Double ended MH lamp in an inline setup. Could you please give me some tips on stripping the monitor down, it would be much appreciated
Many Thanx
BEEMER 🙂

what ever you do DO NOT disconnect the ballast... it will overload the controller board any you will be stuffed... other than that its all simple... no static issues with it..
any more questions?

I may sound like a dunderhead here but you said
I didnt realise there is a ballast on the monitor !?what ever you do DO NOT disconnect the ballast... it will overload the controller board any you will be stuffed
sure there is its there to start the flouresent tubes, so just dont take it off..

You dont have to take it off, all you have to do is cut the power to it, providing you know what you are doing, and you would realise there is not only 1 lot of 12v going to the ballast but 2, then there will be either a 5v or a 3v that controlls the brightness of the lamp wich controlls in some cases the brightness of the lcd via the backlight. You wont overload the controller board, its regulated, you just took the wrong thing out.

ace... remember when i did it and it blew the transistor... you where the one that told me it was because i had disconnected the ballast it overloaded the board.... you can try cutting the ower to it if you like but if it does blow you will know why.

i've had a little accident, i mistakenly connected a 15v supply to the monitor instead of the 12v supply specified & burnt out a little component on the power module board. would you mind if I picked your brains on how to remedy the problem or identify the component so as I can fix it. I have attached a "picture" of the board & the component where-abouts.
ManY thanks & sorry for being a pain

Yess but you dont go cutting tracks on the pcb, i took a single resistior out of mine to turn mine off on just the main power rail only to the inverter, you need to trace the circut and know which way the power travels on the circut, grounds, what the power is going too ect. You told me you blew a diode. If you dont know what your doing, dont do it, its that simple.
