Do you know if the back wave from the dome midrange is contained within the driver or does it need a chamber behind it? In other words, could it be mounted open baffle without affecting the sound (assuming a speaker front baffle of the same dimensions and driver placement thereon)? What about the tweeter? Thanks,
Thanks, Matthias!Dont overthink the braces. Just add some bracing to make the box as rigid as possible and you're good.
Off to a good start yesterday. Got most of the main panels cut (3/4 Baltic birch) as well as the supports (MDF).. lots of fun! Likely be a week or so before I can get back up to my friends shop. Prob start crossovers in the meantime.
Ordered the VM752's this week. For anyone looking at this build, HifiCollective in the UK is now a Volt distributor! (As of this week) Thanks to PFarrell for that pro tip just as I was getting ready to order.. Anyway, they are offering free shipping to the US and Candada.. So turned out to be a bit of a better deal than from Solen..
SkyPirate,
Good to see that your project is progressing well - look forward to more pics and updates as they happen. 🙂

Agree. It's terrific to see another OSMB take shape!
I recently came across a PBN speaker that uses the Volt mid and it made me wonder how much tweaking it would take to adapt the OSMB to two woofers. If paralleling two of the 16 ohm Faital's, would it primarily be a question of level matching or would it be much more complicated. The beauty of having only superficial knowledge is that anything seems possible 😆

To SkyPirate, are you worried about US tariff/duties of some type from importing? I need to purchase a pair, but was worried about this. Madisound said they have ordered some 752s, but no word on timing.
CALboy, PM Sent.
Did some work on braces this week. Still need to cut the panels down, but we were happy with how they turned out.
Metthias, I have a 2 questions about the inductors on the crossover boards. In your pictures on the thread, the large inductors look very different from what’s in the current OSMC paper. Were they v1.0’s? I received VS180’s from Audiohobby vs BS180, specs seem the same and I’m pretty sure it’s an updated version. The leads on both of the big inductors on W crossover are long.. Is it ok to trim the leads down to a length that works, or are the lead lengths important to the function of the inductor?
(Shaper belongs to my friend, Mark although I had fun playing with it!)

I was not aware of the VS180, which do indeed look like an upgrade from the BS180. VS180 looks good to me.I have a 2 questions about the inductors on the crossover boards. Sure, just trim down those leads. Just don't remove any wire from the coil itself.

Some work? Looks like 3 grand worth of machinery. The more saw dust you create, is it really worth it? A matrix of beams is where its at, no?Did some work on braces this week.
Or even Flat panels. I need to come up with a name for this style, Its like a folded TL, but just for bracing, Folded line bracing?
Crossbeams of 1"x1" pieces of wood every 6" was the recipe I was told.
Good morning all.. Question this morning for those of you who've completed your crossovers. Laying out the parts that I ordered (Orig equip that Metthias called for and got them from the guys at AudioHobby) and I'm noticing that a few of the pics I'm seeing on this thread have 2 resistors in parallel for RW2. Not sure of the values as it's difficult to read on the photos. I have a single 5.6 ohm resistor in this spot. Was there a change or tweak along the way that I didn't catch? Looking at crossover photos from @pfarrell and @Sorenm.. Thanks!
Good morning -
As far as I recall, and can see on the schematic (attached), RW1 and RW2 are in parallel. Could that be what you are seeing?
Disregard.. bafoonery in progress over here.. I glanced at your mid crossover and for some reason thought it was the W.. Need my second cup of coffee! Thanks @Sorenm! #Facepalm
Just follow the values in the OSMC Paper and you should be good.
