It's just a term used in English speaking audio referring to the big box-shaped rectangular speakers of the 60s, 70s, 80s, of a size around a good fit to bury a small simian, but not big enough to bury adult Homo sapiens 😎

Update - After the first playing, more dampening was needed - bass a little too loose. The speakers are now breaking in.
The midrange is already excellent. Looking forward to placing them correctly and hearing what imaging they are capable of.

Dampening - I was originally going to use some fiberglass sound panels. It was too friable and I changed direction.
I found some egg-crate foam with similar NRC ratings (below 500Hz) as the Basotect. I followed Matthias' guidelines and only covered half of the rear with dampening material.
I then covered the whole back inside and added some AngelHair in the bottom behind the woofer. Stopped the slight boominess that I heard. I did use the AngelHair in the top instead of the wool because I already had it. (100g per speaker at this point.)
The amp - clone of the Aleph J.

Their marketing dept have excelled themselves:
The improvement in the sound quality (fine dynamics in the midrange, “more airy” reproduction of voices and instruments, better 3D properties, etc.) is absolutely comparable with replacing cheaper standard connections with high-end cables.
In other words: it makes no difference! 😎
I think angel air is Dupont plastic fiber material with an empty channel inside. Used for sleeping bags or winter clothes. Pure wood is certainly better for what we need here.
Mbrennwa gave links before in this thread for Melamine foam, iirc. A very good material.

Pasta material is far better than meta material !
Sheep wool is superior to angel hair
Melamine foam (think to the magic sponges made with material) is all open foam so play the same role. You can add stuffing in the top with angel white sheep air, perhaps it plays a role towards the highest frequencies of the Faital... If I remember it wastunned after.

Evening all.. This is one of the first of what will likely be a lot of questions! Have a morning set up with a friend tomorrow who builds fine furniture, and has a full wood shop. Lifesaver on this project. I'm hoping tomorrow we can get the outside cabinet panels cut. Question about the internal braces however. I picked up some 3/4 MDF today for them, but the dimensions in the paper seem to be scarce. I"ve seen some pics on the thread where some guys made the full brace including the "L" section, and some who seem to have removed the L section. I'm assuming there needs to be a certain distance from where the brace is labeled Front, to the end of the recess where the remaining material starts to accomodate the drivers? I've seen a few examples (I believe) where one brace has the L and the other does not.. I'm likely over thinking this already! Pics for fun tomorrow!
