suggestions.

Scott,

bare in mind that NP favors simple and dislikes integrated stuff.
The voltage regulator section for the signal part of the P1.7 is just a single mosfet that is set by a string of zener diodes, it's operating decent because of the 20 volts drop from 80Vdc unregulated to 60 Volts.

A drop of 20 volts allows a multi-stage regulator, which is what the competition are using for their top level products.
A "general" approach is to put the rectified current through a CLC(or CRC), followed by one or two LM317/337 regulator stages.
The pre-cleaned stuff is then fed into a shunt style last stage regulator.
At the Blowtorch thread you can see how it looks like, Mr Perez (aka JustcallmeDad) posted some schematics.
(somewhere between page 50 and 65, provided my memory hasn't blown from coke abuse)
A single design has another CRC stage added between the ones mentioned.

Best mains transformer type before the regulators is not a toroidal but a block type, and preferably a split bobbin model.
Those are "oldfashioned" transformer types, the primary and secondary windings have their own section on the transformer core, not wound on top of eachother like regulars.
A split bobbin transformer is better at keeping the garbage out.
New, it seems they're hard to source at the moment, Digikey carries the ones favored by Mr Curl only up to 36Vac models.
There are a bunch of other transformer manufacturers who do the split winding types.
Overhere, they are easy to DIY with a transformer assembly package.

Jacco:

Thank you for the insight and information! Sorry about the delayed response, but I've only just arrived home from holiday; my wife and I had taken the kids to the Yucatan peninsula south of Cancun, but we felt the need to leave before Hurricane Dean presented itself (I wonder how the kids will fare).

I'll try researching my options, but may send you an email looking for further advice, if you don't mind.

Regards,
Scott

I wonder if anyone still have matched mosfet for P1.7. Otherwise, I might need to match myself (first time). My question is what current I should use to match them for P1.7? 70 mA? I assume we should use the current at which the amp operate. Thanks for your advice.
