Another Old Soul lives. Went together without incident. Being limited on chassis’ I had to temporarily displace my beloved Scryer. We’ll see which one earns the chassis

I went the chicken route and started with the 2SA1941. Approx 28v rails and starting off around 1A4 Iq.

Lastly, a HUGE thanks to banderson546 for sharing his extra kit with me. Thanks again Bruce!

Looking forward to any listening impressions you have to share and be careful if you go the Ge route as you may not see failure immediately and also hope you never see any device failure. Congratulations on being among the hopelessly addicted.

Thanks Stephen, and thanks also for the FYI on fail rates! Honestly, I think my Ge journey is TBD. I'm gonna get familiar with the amp in Se first, then decide. Not as though I need more versions of amps, but as you mention, I do need my fix

Hi Cody,

My two Ge part failures were both within the first 24 hours of use. (One didn't work property even at the Iq bias stage; the other failed after maybe half a day of running in).

The necessity to run these parts at lower current makes for a very nice summer (and year round) amp. And it's kinda neat having an amp with a
slightly negative tempco.

The summer amp aspect is definitely one draw I have toward the Ge parts

I got my 2N1099 GE Biguns from Zenmod's stash. Looked to be NOS.
I was careful to bring up pcbs slowly with a Variac while setting
Iq. They're set now for 1A and haven't had any problems.

Thanks Bruce, and good to know your build went together smoothly. Sounding like they either go poof really quickly, or they’re good for the duration. Since they’re available at reasonable cost, it’s not much of a deterrent.

Yeah, I really like it. It does have some SIT-y qualities for sure. Sounds punchy and detailed. Whether or not it dethrones Scryer, I don’t know.
