Oh no, he's back

I'm putting the little Avante on hold as I'm not happy enough with the sound overall especially when its used a 3-way. Need to rethink drivers and start afresh. I'm think probably either a 2-way or 3-way and not something that tries to be both. If its a 2-way then I think a 6.5" is a minimum rather than a 4.5" like the Seas.

What about the Wavecor BD series? Something like a WF182BD01 or 02 would work very nice in a 2 way I think.

Which drivers have you tested?

I was looking at mating the WF152BD04 or WF138WA03 to the Neo 3 (B&G) or TW030WA01

For a matching MTM center speaker WF152BD02 or WF138WA01 to the Neo3 or TW030WA03

Also I was looking at their SW263WA01 mated to their passive radiators for a compact sub and their SW270WA01 for a simpler sub.

I am told that there is a 8" Balanced driver woofer to be expected soon.

Ref; Driver line up photo - why 2 tweeters?

There's one tweeter in the design, two in the render to make it twice as pretty 😛

Ref: floor standing photos - what are the driver line ups in those three photos? One looks like it has a SEAS Excel midwoofer

Yes Seas Excel is correct but I've given up on getting it sounding as good I'd like so will be going back to the drawing with that one.

What now? Accuton?🙂

They sound as thin as a fart passing through a crack in a door and I can't stand the horrible looking perforated metal covers they use on their drivers. Looks like badly done car audio to me 🙂 Oh and the square frames they use on their smaller drivers, what is this? The 80's?

So yeah, not really a fan... 😀

Hi Shin,

Do you have any plans for woofer column to supplement your LGT now? I thought you have such plan before? I am planning something like this right now!

I no longer have the LGT but I'm guessing you mean either the vertical array of 4x XLS10 in a sealed cabinet or the box sub with 4x XLS10 in a ported cabinet tuned to 18hz. I have plans for both but only built the ported box which had *&--*!* scary amounts of LF output. The sealed design would need EQ or Linkwitz Transform to achieve the same effect.

Either one of the designs are large:

That's the direction I'm looking now. High value drivers but still with some very good performance. Drivers like Wavecor, Aurum Cantus, Peerless HDS, Dayton Reference, some of the Seas Prestige, SS Discovery, SBAcoustics and so on.

Didn't realize you sold your creation already! Sure the new owner must be very pleased! I am planning for a woofer column with a closed box design with LT/EQ. I wonder if I can ask you some questions? Would you mind if I send you an email for that as this will be slightly off topic

Shin, you should be working for Pininfarina...

They designed speakers for an italian audio company called Aliante if I remember well, but you are doing a better job...

As an Italian by heart (i grew up in Italy), that's no small compliment 🙂 Hats off!

Hi everyone, newbie in here.
Nice work with everything you do Shin.
Here are options based on sounding good and having good price/performance, not in any particular order, dont leave ignored even if it is cheap:
-seas mca15rcy
-monacor sph-130 also al
-vifa pl14wr09-08
-focal 5w3211b
+maybe few others..

-monacor dt-300
-vifa xt25tg30-04
-scan-speak 2904-6000
+few more..

And if you go to high-efficiency there is lot of great drivers wich are pretty cheap but will beat many "high-fidelity" drivers. I personally like this way.
Also you dont need that many (quality) watts to get dynamics. (weird word🙂 is it shortened from dynamite🙂?

Rgrds,
-Niko
