Offline full-bridge SMPS… need help

page #30, post #294 by chas1, he posted picture there

in that picture, a bit up and left from the middle, there you can see rectifier, 4 diods, and switch to the right of it

if switch open, its for 230 operation, if closed, its for 120v operation... I think you are in no danger to kill anything if you don't do this, while I CAN NOT do this, since my supply voltage would go up to 660v and kill a lot of elements

I am very appreciative of your quick response.

However I am running 110 volts not 220...

I have 2 ETD49's not the other ones.

and for the $1.20 worth of failed IGBT's is way too expensive a gamble. hehehe

I am working on my PCB production techniques at this time. It has been a while since I have made one. I am gathering my testing and construction equipment and reading and learning thanks especially to you and others on this thread. There is a lot to learn and to know before dabbling in High Current Exotic circuits... but the thrill is to be had by those that hang it out there.

Well depends on what freq. you will go with. Once you know, you will look into datasheet to see what value of Rt you'll need. After that you will have to calculate number of primary turns(which is dependent on few things). After that, depends if you need regulated supply or non-regulated, you can calculated number of secondary turns to get +/-80v after regulation or without it(you will need more with regulation, since you have voltage drop on output inductor, but you can have stabile output voltage independent of load or input voltage(with normal specs))

yes and no, it will work maybe few seconds, maybe few hours, but that is not good for core nor end result, if you take same settings as on a nother core.

Its like using same settings for latest Intel or Amd CPU and apply them to some smaller(older) CPU. It might work, but odds are against you

A question?what is the output power as this will determine the core size.
ETD39@50kHz 400WATTS, 80kHz 700watts,100kHz 900watts and then the wire size will become an issue .Reference Pressman "Switching Power Supply Design" and "High Frequency Switching Power Supplies Theory and Design" by George Chryssis ,If you have this book refer to page 91

Chas1 or anyone...

Do you know of a way to drive a full bridge of IGBT's (into a ETD-49)without using a transformer? Maybe a couple of 2113's or discrete transistors or other electronic device. I am trying to simplify my design and make as few choices that require the variables of building a transformer.
