Can you just indicate where it has to be made on the Schematic?
I just ordered the PCB material yesterday so I will be in fab next week...
Thanks

page #30, post #294 by chas1, he posted picture there
in that picture, a bit up and left from the middle, there you can see rectifier, 4 diods, and switch to the right of it
if switch open, its for 230 operation, if closed, its for 120v operation... I think you are in no danger to kill anything if you don't do this, while I CAN NOT do this, since my supply voltage would go up to 660v and kill a lot of elements

nope, that is not my
I have posted my somethere in this almost 100 page thread 😀
but you can find it on my page in 20s so...

I will develop one with the use of the ETD-49... starting today I will post it as soon as I have a reasonable layout to present..
Thanks

yea, I know I should use 49, since 44 is not used not as near as much as 49, but free is free...
next one, that I will do, it will be for more then one trafo, 44, 49, and probably some other too
and I don't think you could fit 49 on my, not in normal way anyway

The Bmax value is determined by the type of material the core is made from, the ambient temp of the core in full load, etc.
all of these you can find and calculate if you search the datasheet of the material.
for example 3C90, 3F3, etc

savu
Bmax for those 3c90 and 3f3 is not more 400, where did they get the 1200 from?

from the datasheet of the material. you take it from a table that shout thermal VS frequency.
have to find an example .. i will post as soon as i fin the time.

Hey Chas1 would G4PC40U devices be good for the SMPS you have in mind?
I just Bought 10 of these on ebay for 6 bucks.

IGBT's
Check the datasheet and compare it with other devices that have been used in smps,I have not used IR devices only Fairchild which are designed for smps but it might..

If you use Luka's pcb and have a ETD44 coreset, wind the tranny and in place of mosfets use your igbt's if the outputs are okay along with all other spec's then you have your answer however if they fail then use mosfets...

I am very appreciative of your quick response.
However I am running 110 volts not 220...
I have 2 ETD49's not the other ones.
and for the $1.20 worth of failed IGBT's is way too expensive a gamble. hehehe
I am working on my PCB production techniques at this time. It has been a while since I have made one. I am gathering my testing and construction equipment and reading and learning thanks especially to you and others on this thread. There is a lot to learn and to know before dabbling in High Current Exotic circuits... but the thrill is to be had by those that hang it out there.

hi guys i have lots of etd 39 what resistor value should i use in rt pin of sg 3525 and what about the number of turns of primary and secondary if i wanted a supply of +/-80 vlts stewin.
Well depends on what freq. you will go with. Once you know, you will look into datasheet to see what value of Rt you'll need. After that you will have to calculate number of primary turns(which is dependent on few things). After that, depends if you need regulated supply or non-regulated, you can calculated number of secondary turns to get +/-80v after regulation or without it(you will need more with regulation, since you have voltage drop on output inductor, but you can have stabile output voltage independent of load or input voltage(with normal specs))
just curious if etd39 will work directly with this circuit without any change of components , primary or sec turns or altering the existing frequency thanks steve
yes and no, it will work maybe few seconds, maybe few hours, but that is not good for core nor end result, if you take same settings as on a nother core.
Its like using same settings for latest Intel or Amd CPU and apply them to some smaller(older) CPU. It might work, but odds are against you

A question?what is the output power as this will determine the core size.
ETD39@50kHz 400WATTS, 80kHz 700watts,100kHz 900watts and then the wire size will become an issue .Reference Pressman "Switching Power Supply Design" and "High Frequency Switching Power Supplies Theory and Design" by George Chryssis ,If you have this book refer to page 91

Chas1 or anyone...
Do you know of a way to drive a full bridge of IGBT's (into a ETD-49)without using a transformer? Maybe a couple of 2113's or discrete transistors or other electronic device. I am trying to simplify my design and make as few choices that require the variables of building a transformer.
