I am curious what kind of capacitor others are using for C1. I wanted to us a poly and the only 680pf cap Mouser showed was a much too big cap for the board. I made it work by attaching a lead to one end to get enough length to make it fit. I am just wondering what others are using. Mine worked great but I suspect a simple Mica would have been good enough.

I wound up with a Wima FKP polypropylene film+foil cap. Fits the boards just fine.

AC and Pulse Film Capacitors. I searched general film capacitor. I am unfamiliar what an AC and Pulse Film Capacitor exactly is and what the difference is from a general film capacitor.

Gives me the chance to tamper with the circuit any way I want and change things as I go along. Stuffing boards others designed leaves only part of the fun. The M2 has so few parts it is simple to do on a proto board.

I am also curious what people are using for C3. I have Nichicon Fine Gold 3300uF, 16V. Would maybe prefer a Silmic II for peace of mind, but their 3300uF tops out at 10V, which doesn't seem to be enough for use with the usual IRF parts. Any potential downsides to the Fine Gold line for this position?
Ok, I am firing this thing up. So far, up to 80 volt on variac. Offset at 7 mV and 6.9 mV. Measuring across source resistor is showing .62 volts ( source resistor .50 ohms)
I understand bias numbers should be similar to F-5....but I am at .62 v and only 80 volts on variac. Does this seem normal thus far?

opto bias mechanismus is taking care of that and you're already deep in enough voltage for mosfets to conduct/be alive

95V on variac, can still keep offsett around 7 mV both channel, source resistor reading .65 v

100v on variac, set offset to 5 mV source resistor at .65 still....
110v on variac, can get offset to 1 mV, source resistor now at .66v....

Thanks Zenmod, sinks beginning to get just warm, may as well go to 120 v on variac...
OK, full 120v, offset at 0.00 mV, source resistor now at .67 v
Time to let it cook a while then I will pop it into system.

Right channel at 2.3 MV, end of pot, I can hear click. Left channel 0.0 with a little travel left.

Mega Volt is little too much , for my liking

You mean bias to high? I dont know how to lower...or are you jacking with me about low offset?😀
