Obtaining my White Whale (25 Driver IDS-25 Line Array Build)

I'm basically trying to get the point source effect for the high end while enjoying the line array effect for the rest.

My plan is to have different presets for different listening arrangements. The compression drivers are perfectly for a dialed in one-seat scenario. The other presets would be if I plan to walk around or have multiple people listening, which is where the line arrays would exclusively be used.

The line arrays are absolutely still the foundation of this system but it is interesting to see it turn into a quasi 5 way system.

The JBL line arrays as they are go down to only 40~50hz because of their port tuning. That's why I have 2 proper subs in the room and another 15 inch sub on standby. I'm in the process right now of sealing all the ports but the winter storm in Florida interrupted that. I'm still unsure if if I have enough amplification for them to not need the subs.

I have crossovers set in both a Minidsp Flex HTx and a 2x4 HD, each with Dirac. Off hand I don't remember what they all are. I'm using 10 channels worth the DSP control.

I got all the ports sealed on the row of speakers behind the couch. I'm still finishing the plugs for the front. I used 1 inch thick closed cell foam sandwiched between wood. That way I can return them to original if needed.

I do have a question for you all. Of the bass line arrays, the front left one has always been quieter mainly because it has a bunch of big dips in the response. Because of that, the amplifier has to work harder to compensate and it's holding back the headroom of the rest of the system. Is it as simple as reversing the phase or do I need to mess with speaker placement?

Usually dips are from the position in the room and trying to add more power isn't that good of an idea, as the counterwave that creates the dip (when bouncing off of a wall etc.) will also get that higher amount of energy. Phase manipulation can help with some problems but not with such a position dependent dip.

Easiest way to check would be to move the speaker and remeasure? Have the dips moved as well?

I wouldn't try and fix those dips but do some trading with the right side bass array doing a bit more of the lifting where the left side has that dip. You might even reduce a bit of the SPL levels at that dip on the left side. Even better if you have another sub available on the left side of the room that can handle it and want to keep it stereo. I can vouch for Stereo bass being worth it. Anyway, with this trading of energy you get to keep more headroom. As long as the combined outcome at your preferred listening spot(s) is better it will sound pretty good anyway..

I finally got the ports plugged. I definitely hear a difference but haven't listened long enough to have any opinions yet.

I'll need to re-eq everything to adjust for the change.

It feels like there's less slam, but then something happens that changes my opinion on that. I think its just because there is a little less spl now but it gets deeper. Talking about deeper... I've got more random things vibrating in my room now.

One definite change is that the imaging is definitely more "vibrant" now. It was excellent before but it somehow got more coherent.

I figured out why I had major dips on the left bass array. After moving everything out of that side of the room, repositioning that 274 lbs speaker a bunch of times, and remembering each time; I took a 9 volt battery to the speaker wire to check polarity ...the bottom two drivers were wired backwards.

I went ahead and plugged the ports on my two subs in the room. The bass feels even more immediate but the levels are definitely off on them for now.

For some reason, the mids and highs feel like there is a veil over them. Anyone know why that would be? It's almost like it's all bass.
