So, it somehow took the SI amp to discredit reviewers for you? Hm. Can't say much more.
Sorry, but I do not understand the last sentence.
As said in my previous post, I do not believe in objectivity. That means I have no problem with awards like this. I know they are subjective and biased, just as this thread--the Will To Power.
I have no problem with reviews and reviewers. My problem is some people's claim of objectivity. The opposite of objectivity isn't subjectivity. The opposite of objectivity is life--the will to life. I have no use for the dead. "Let the dead burry their dead." --Jesus
If you make your audio purchasing decisions on design or technical measurements... you’re an idiot.
If you make your audio purchasing decisions on someone else’s opinion (reviews) be they good or bad... you’re even more of an idiot.
If you want to know how good and appropriate a given product is, TAKE IT HOME AND HEAR IT IN THE CONTEXT OF YOUR SYSTEM!

Just to hazard a guess but um.. well, salesman.

Perhaps.
However, you have not been 'A chief engineer of the Tomahawk cruise missile power system'.
linky
So why should I listen to you?

Apparently means nothing. The proof, I surmise, is in what Sander Says.
Oh, rest assured not only the layout screams amateur, they pile one mistake on top of another, I described some of them in the article, and the previous one that covers the Reference 8. The one thing I am happy about though is the fact that their products get better with each generation, so they do learn from their mistakes.

He helped design part of the Tomahawk cruise missile's power system? What part exactly? Considering the fact that their amplifiers put out significant amounts of RF I think he might have gotten away with designing the microcontroller's bios battery socket, but that's about it

No, it's called common sense. The finest test instruments on the planet are those two flappy things on the sides of your head. Use them.
serengetiplains said:"A" .... "The" .... tomahawk shmomahawk, what does Sander say?
Floor Sander Anderson need not say much.
Tell me this,
Why did
"The chief engineer of the Tomahawk cruise missile power system."
Second source some power supplies from shitville and bolt them in a box with a lack of 'skillsaw'?

Genomerics,
The SMPS they use is actually a pretty capable industrial (revolt you audiophiles, this is heresy!) design by Skynet. It is an off the shelf part, hence no engineering effort was required on their part to implement it, all they did was mount two big capacitors at the output to give it a bit better transient response.
The actual amplifier PCB is identical (!) to that of the Reference 9, which triggered my comments in the article that the Reference 9 is basically what the 8 should've been. They opted to use a better SMPS, fiddled with the dead-time a little and used a better opamp in the feedback loop of the modulator and (start drumroll) added a half-baked common-mode solution to cut down on RFI.
It did help to improve the amplifier but these are really basic tweaks any highschool student with a soldering iron can do, not 'next generation' modifications done by a pro that has worked on the Tomahawk cruise missile's power systems. If they were, and he was billing by the hour for his services I'd be inclined to ask for a refund. I've seen more extensive and better executed (read: by the book) modifications done to all sorts of equipment by members of these forums.

So, reading between the lines, what you are trying to say is they second sourced some power supply from shitville, like they did with the 8, and 'jackhammered' it into the box.
You want to tread carefully mate. If we got into an argument I'd be apologetic and you would not survive. (Mind you I have an inflated opinion of myself)
Oh, it was an industrial power supply. That's why it has all those extra parts on it. I was wondering.
Was that a job lot before the NuForce 10 comes out?
Perhaps a bigger box is needed.

Nope, you can't fool me, you're a salesman. 🙂
Common sense would dictate you can't take everything home and try it out, certainly not a multitude of components to compare against each other in any meaningful way. Come oooooooon. Get real. People go by specs, reviews, or any combination of the two. Welcome to planet earth.

I wouldn’t consider Taiwan Shitville

Cheers 😉

Makes you wonder about the missile though doesn't it? Outsourced supply, salvaged guidance system.. bet there's some duct tape in there.

I guess that depends on where you live. New or used, if I can't try it I won't buy it. Specs and design are all irrelevant. My ears and my ears alone judge what sounds good to me. And if it sounds good then it is good! I don’t need to have my opinion validated by someone else.
