I need a new Subwoofer amp and a dinosaur is available on eBay.
Before I make an offer is the old Alesis Matica 900 generally a reliable unit and easy to repair if anything goes wrong?
Only looking because cash is very tight due to Covid.

[USA] 22kg!! Alesis matica 900 450 watts x2 power amplifier | eBay
Not paying the asking price but I made what I think is a fair offer.

Alesis tends to be lower-end stuff with questionable quality. I would think that you could do better.
Funny as I've been told the opposite. I have smaller studio amp here that my wife is using for her computer system and still good after 30 years. I know the dinosaur is as old if not older but was hoping I could get it for $350- local pesos
There is a real supply problem here in Oz at the moment.
Lot's of the cheap Behringer amps with DSP are either Pre-order [ with prepayment] or simply out of stock.
I don't need much; about 500 watts per channel @8R with DSP

Finding local deals seems ideal.
Its a actual real item that you can pick up.
Not a digital picture and constant date changes for arrival time.

I would be wary of any amp with some age.
The pots, switches, connectors etc can start to wear.
Electrolytics start to be come a problem.
For that money I would be looking at something new if possible.

I've had good luck with used Crown and QSC amplifiers. They're what's most common here in the US. When you can find them, some of the old Crest amplifiers can be great too.
There are lots of other great PA amp brands that may be more common where you're from. Things like EV / Dynacord, Camco, MC2, Yamaha, Ramsa, etc. Not sure what the AU / US dollar conversion is (and I'm too lazy to look it up), but I would think you could find something pretty decent for less than what that amp is listed for.

# $350- AUD buys bugger all here.
The great gods help us when GST jumps to 15% to pay for the Covid disaster.
Nigel that's about 165 UK pounds but remember this is a tiny market by worlds standards and with much higher prices and fewer bits of gear to choose from

It is an amp meant to be used on stage.
For home use the fan is disturbingly loud, even with the speed regulation.
The Inputs need to be balanced to deliver the low noise claimed or there might be annoying hum.
Power consumption is high, even at low volumes a lot of heat needs to be dissipated.
Because new Digital amps are lighter and more efficient many venues replace old gear with modern amps, but in a live environment the amps were stressed quite a bit and might not meet the original specs.
So good luck with it

YAMAHA P3500S Professional Power Amplifier Great Condition. | eBay
But it's an American model, 110V input
Box says only 250 watts in stereo which is much thae same as the amp I have which isn't6 enough; is there a mistake on the box??

DJ City have heaps of cheap amps but I do not know the quality. They are good to deal with from past experience.
Class D is the way to go for that type of duty these days and 3 out of 4 subs I use have Class D amps AFAICT. Less power usage and less heat in a smaller package.

Well lets see what happens I just sent him a message. If it is 400w per channel into 8R that's perfect
I have a cheap DSP unit I can use in the short term
Thanx johnmath Obligato Maximus

DJ city have them all listed as Not available or Pre-order and prepay and we're in a bit of a hurry to get this H/T set-up properly
Besides I'm black listed at DJ city because I gave them a hard time when my order went missing

There is a lot in stock but probably not the one you are after. I've had excellent service from them but nothing went missing.
Yamaha claim 20-20kHz 700W + 700W 8Ω, 950W + 950W 4Ω, 1900W 8Ω bridged on the spec page here:Box says only 250 watts in stereo which is much thae same as the amp I have which isn't6 enough; is there a mistake on the box??
Yamaha P7000S Power Amplifier 2 x 1100w @ 4 Ohms | Yamaha Music London
Either the amp is not a P7000s or the box is wrongly printed
Just said SOLD as it seems to be just enough overkill

johnmath this is going to be interesting to say the least.
When we re-wired our house a decade ago I insisted on a separate circuit for the Stereo & H/T. Wired with 4mm<2 and nominally 32A going to a 4gang GPO
We probably have one of the few domestic situations where running one of these would work because I read on the owners manual that when pumping out 700W [ which will probably never ever get used] they pull 11Amperes. They might get a run at the Cerwin Vegas at some time Probably the only amp I will ever own that really does go to 11.
Once again thanx for pointing me to it and if they don't work out I'll just build bigger subwoofers for the garage/party system
