Not DIY but I need advice

That may be true Dave but my repair guy says that they are mostly easy to fix.
It's a cost based purchase really.
A small question for the "Brains Trust" Being a stage / Studio amp it works with low impedance loads, what would it be like using big 16R speakers? I need to assemble something to soak up the power and keep up with the H/T mains and can wire in series or in parallel.
I could also stack a 3 existing small boxes and wire them series / parallel for a 4R load.
Said boxes being 1 * 12 " 8R plus 2 * 9" 4R

Parallel speaker connections are to be preferred. When speakers are series, each driver is fed through impedance network of the other drivers in the system.

Yamaha claim each channel will drive 2Ω to 1600W peak, that's 800W each for two paralleled 4Ω systems or 400W per 9" driver. The other channel will simultaneously drive 750W peak into your 8Ω 12" system. That's a faceplate rating of 2350W total. I would have thought that to be elegant sufficiency for the application.

If you were to series the two dual driver systems then the faceplate power available from the amplifier would be 1500W peak total, but would be distributed as 750W for the 12" and 187.5W for each of the 9" drivers, not such an elegant distribution of power between the drivers.

I've never owned anything this powerful before, so I have no idea how it's going to work but the amp repair feller says I'll probably NEVER drive it into clipping

What the soft drink; the powerful stuff is in the other cupboard on the RHS with the door shut.
May years ago in another house SWMBO wanted me to play Dark Side of the Moon at concert level. A few minutes into the album [ CD ] we heard a huge crash from the kitchen, all the glassware had vibrated off the open shelves and fallen onto the tiled floor of the kitchen

This amp may turn out to be a counterfeit.
How do I tell a fake from a real one?
Underneath is a large bolt usually found securing a toroid and P7000s should not have that.
I have contacted the seller and if it is a fake I'll request a PayPal refund

You really need an amplifier capable of driving 2Ω for the best usage of your subs. Here's a Peavy PVi2000 with similar specs to a genuine P7000S.

Of course, being fan cooled there will be some noise. You could possibly slow down the low speed setting until it is practically inaudible, which will also help keep the internals clean. The high speed fan will still kick in at the same temperature as before, so no risk from slowing down the low speed setting. The fan may cycle more frequently (if it cycles at all) in your situation.

I picked up a blown PV-1.3k for $55, a blown PV-4c for $15, another for $20, a working MMA-875t (mono) for $20. A working CS800s for $120. Bar bands don't want transformer amps, they weigh too much to set up & tear down.
With gumtree & craigslist, you take a CD player some cable & a speaker & listen before purchase. At $275 for a PVi2000, do it. At the prices above, who cares, as long as the transformer is not shorted. None have been. The risk of an open box amp, possibly a bad solder joint that affects it sometimes. The PV-1.3k had a bad joint that lasted all the time since 1994. Would jump to 185 v on speaker channel A. The old "listen through back to back electrolytic caps and push on joints with a chopstick" trick found it. Pop! goes the bad joint.

I'd be happy to go and test Jo but we are in total lockdown here in Victoria as far as travel between areas is concerned. Please don't confuse USA prices with Australian prices tho, we pay a lot more here for goods so even S/H goods would be more expensive. The seller is way out of our lockdown region unfortunately and I have no mates in his area worse luck.

Whether fake or not, any individual can buy and accept shipments of small quantities of goods of whatever quality and provenance from other countries in which we have trade agreements. Exceptions are mainly about illegal, dangerous or restricted substances, perishables and products.

Frankly, I would not act as an agent of justice or the real cops might take an interest in you when the seller gets mad about being denied payment and so has a lawful right to the return of his goods. Maybe they were also deceived by a previous seller and are trying to get some money back too, not that it's this is any kind of excuse for deception.

In any event, you might be in for quite a struggle if you presume that being a fake entitles you to possess the amp. for free.

I think this individual has a garage full of knock-offs Ian and it is intentional fraud as he is well aware that they are counterfeit.
If Paypal did refund us [ they may not ] it would be up to the seller to request a return.
If we did get a refund I'd have no compunction in keeping the goods; to do so might discourage these people from ripping more people off, unfortunately for us little people the "relevant authorities" seem to think these small crimes don't count for much and have a very low priority
The relevant authorities including the ACCC and the Federal Police have been notified however; as has Yamaha Australia.
I think you may be wrong in your statement about the legality of selling counterfeits because I've seen Customs [ in the olden days] and the police go through the markets seizing counterfeit items many times; usually clothing and CDs/DVDs but also tools and electrical items.
To knowingly sell a known counterfeit item as genuine is fraud, simple really.
To accept his offer of a refund if we return the goods is helping to perpetuate such fraudulent behaviuor

johnmath I bought that used Peavey as the seller seems genuine and it's close to what I need.
As soon as we get the paypal refund for the counterfeit Yamaha the seller gets reported.
To Facebook but also to the Federal Police via ACCC and to the Tax Office for not reporting income or paying GST.
Never sell a fake to a Federal government employee/Public Servant and that is what SWMBO is.
