Worst case is that they arrive tomorrow. We are having a big snow storm today and it is a national holiday. I am not sure that the UPS truck will make it.
Best Regards,
Dale
Hello Dale, is this the second shipment you are referring to? I think I mentioned I needed a few more output boards to you already.
Anthony
HI Anthony,
Actually, I have your boards ready to go. And yes, this is the next batch for people that missed out on the first group buy.
I have not ventured outside to see if UPS arrived. It's too cold and windy. I am a cold weather wimp.
Best Regards,
Dale
P.S. For those who were waiting on boards or fets, they are all ready to ship!

Three of the four boards I received look great. The fourth has a trail of "gunk" leading from C7 diagonally upwards towards R12. This dotted line crosses one of the solder points. I am not sure if this is a problem (the gunk doesn't seem to be metallic).
I took a picture which I will send as soon as I install XP drivers for my camera.

Hi Steve,
Sounds like a splattering of solder mask.
What color is it?
Does it cover any silkscreen or pads?
I would be very happy to replace the board.
Let me know.

Dale-
It appears to be yellow in color. It crosses one of the solder pads but it is not continuous (ie, it is a series of essentially dots).
Short of installing in an amp, can one troubleshoot the board?
Did I see you making another run on the boards? I would be interested in a few more of each if so (and you had them available for order).
A related (and probably stupid) question. The driver boards can be cut in half. Does this mean you can assemble an Aleph 2 with three gain and three current devices (without modifying the main board). And if so, what is the power of the "1/2" Aleph 2?
Thanks,
SteveA

Steve,
One can make an Aleph5 with 1/2 of the "output" board. Some of the resistor values on the driver board need to be changed along with different rail voltages. You can look at the two service manuals to see the differences.
I cannot comment on the sound differences.
I don't know what a yellow colored substance would be. Have you tried cleaning it off with isopropyl alcohol. It is probably diluted solder mask. It is not conductive and will not interfere with the board functions.

All outstanding paid orders (boards and fets)were posted today.
There are a couple of people who requested boards, but did not pay yet. Do you still want them?
I have lots of output boards available, and many driver boards.
A few sets of fets too.

Hello Dale, I sent you an email requesting a Pay Pal invoice for the extra Boards I wanted.

Dale,
Did you mail my output boards? How many did I order? Can I order some more?
Thanks,

Hi Brian,
I sent you eight yesterday. How many more do you want?
Perhaps you have caught me in a generous mood...

Getting tired of digging out the wood splinters, maybe missing the solder flux fumes?🙂

I really just have been caught up with other things. I also just finished putting together my Jordan JX92S mini-monitors. I am totally blown away with these speakers. I really love my Seas Thor TL speakers, but these small full range speakers really, really impress me.
I put them together, half-*** before, without the port, and the back just slapped on, and no stuffing inside to break them in. I had my roommate watch television with them for over a week, logging about 75 hours on them (he watchs television at least 6 hours a day). I put the port on the back correctly, with with proper stuffing.
They sound great! They don't go as low my Thor TL speakers, but the imaging is amazing. (i am not doing any comparisons until I give them another week or so to break in.) The bass is said to go down to the 50s.
I am totally confused how a single driver can do 55-17khz in a simple ported enclosure. This blows the Tangband w3-871s out of the water.. (even though the driver costs 10x as much). I am hooked on this full range driver thing now, and am thinking about selling my Seas Thor TL speakers to my friend, so that I can explore other designs. (i also can thing of ways to build them lighter as they weigh around 100lbs each). The Jordan JX92s speakers must weigh 30lbs each, as the sides and top are 1.5" thick mdf. There is half of a 4'x8' sheet of mdf in this pair of speakers.
Below is a picture of the current setup. You can see my Aleph chassis just sitting there idle, waiting for me to finish it.
I have been considering bi-amping the Thor TL speakers with an Aleph5 for the highs and an Aleph-X for the lows.. I am still using the leach amp for them now.
More pictures of speakers at:

I will finish putting a 1 1/2" roundover on them and hopefully start to paint them glossy black this weekend. (primer, flat black, then polyacrylic...)

Anthony,
In your images, what does GAAT stand for on your amplifier?

Hey Brian, GAAT is the name of a company I started many years ago when I was doing Music room installations. This is pre the Home Theatre rage of today, you see I am a cludite and prefer top notch stereo to multichannel music. I find Multichannel music distracting, it's OK for novelty entertainment, but not serious listening. Well that's more than you wanted to know, GAAT stands for Great Audio And Technolgy and is partially derived from my last name. It started as GGAT GreGarious Audio Technology. I still do Music/Home Theatre construction, but only for friends and such.
I now mostly do Balanced AC supplies for Studio and Home use in my spare time. Ha, that's funny spare time.
Regards
Anthony
