Tap Question for Mark G

Mark:

Your advice on taps was very timely for me as I am attempting to build my first amplifier that needs a custom box (Aleph 60). You seem to have some experience in tapping aluminum. A few quick questions, if I may indulge you:

1. I looked at the MSC catalog and they have two types of 2-flute spiral taps: bottoming and plug: http://www.mscdirect.com/PDF.process?pdf=258 Which style should I order to tap holes in the heat sink?

2. What is the right size hole for the TO-247 package for the IRF244? I have always used a 4-40 bolt for heatsinks in the past.

3. What size of tap handle should I use? I think it should be this one: http://www.mscdirect.com/IWCatProdu...nt_Id=1&Section_Id=&pcount=&Product_Id=342191

Thanks for your time,

Paul Greenberg

Hi Guys,

You can email me at dherman@ksaria.com

I am taking requests for a new smaller order. I can't guarantee the same prices, but they will be

< 10.00 ea for drivers
< 4.50 ea for outputs

Best Regards,

Dale

Still sounds like a great Deal to me Dale. I beleive that was the price when we all signed up for the first group buy.

Anthony

Thanks Dale

The boards look great. I started installing caps and resistors in 2.
I'm waiting on heat sink extrusion so I can start the chassis. I found 2 huge 60Vct 20A EI transformers at a local surplus store.
I want to post some pics, but I need to first find a utility to reduce the resolution of files from my camera so the forum will accept. It's always something. Thanks again

I just recieved my boards 2 days ago and like everyone else I am very appreciative of Dale's efforts in making this possible.

I have started to aquire my parts and have a question about the power supply. In reviewing the documentation I came across KRISTIJAN web site where he details a power supply for the Aleph 2 which is quite different from that found in the Pass documentation. Also it calls for more that twice the capacitance for each rail. Has anyone else tried this configuration, and can explain the differences (positive & negative). Thanks

Update...

All existing paid orders have been shipped with the exception of:

Nick (Singapore).

So far, two people have had minor shortages. My counting skills need to be enhanced.

I have enough boards to fill paid orders only.

For those who have waited, I am sorry. I have just ordered 75 more driver boards at a two week turn.

What this means is that several people who have indicated that they want boards, but I have not received payment, will have another two week wait. This includes those in the Boston area that I was going to hand deliver.

As of right now, I will have about 40 boards to sell. They will be $10.00 each plus shipping. I also have about 80 output boards left (still 3.75). I may buy more if needed.

I will also have several more sets of fets.

Best Regards,

Dale

Hi Jason,

Please contact me offline at dherman@ksaria.com

I may have some Vishay 1 Ohm 5W resistors. These are wirewound with a very small inductance. You can buy them at mouser.

RS0051R000FB12 - Vishay part number
71-RS5-1.0 - Mouser part number

Other choices would be the Mills non-inductive (like they are buying for the AlephX only in 1 Ohm)

Best Regards,

Dale
