i have already purchased a sharp qa-1050 that has composite video inputs. I am about to purchase an elmo HP4KDX. which is about 4000 lumens. to start does anyone have any specs on the sharp 1050 and does this sound like a good set up. should i leave the overhead how it is or add a lens tripler etc. any help would be greatly appreciated. my e-mail is silveradoking02@hotmail.com. thanks, matthew

Hello Matthew, I searched for some specs on this thing but the closest thing I found was the QA-1150. Are you sure that it is QA-1050 because I can not find any information on that panel.

Hehe ..not that I searched ALOT and stuff. I actually only checked this site. Anyway, I hope that this message delivered some form of "help" to you. 🙂

Good luck.

thanks

i don't have my ohp from invsol-inc.com yet. it should be shipped on monday. can't wait to get it. but now i'm researching screens. i'm debating whether or not to try one off of ebay. or parkland plastic, blackout cloth, etc. so many options. but first i'll stick to getting the ohp first.

new thought

ok i have a new thought and i don't know if anyone has done it. but what if you built a structure that went up from the bottom of the ohp and up to the lens. and then put fans in the sides. this would make it have to light loss and it would look better. has anyone done this? i don't even know what i would search to find posts on that. any help would be appreciated.

Do a search on the member "cruser" he has built a comparable enclosure to what you are thinking of.

Mine is very similar (see attached) I need to put larger wheels under it (cushier wheels also...these ones are too "rigid").
The thing hanging beside the PJ head is the pick-up unit for the airkey wireless keyboard/mouse unit, I thought this was going to be a problem for me as it is an IR unit so needs line of sight. I made a lucky discovery that my screen will bounce the keyboard's IR signals back to the unit. Really cool is the fact that when I get it all totally installed it will look like it was built to attach to a 3M9550 😉

The wire you might see trailling across and down the side of the OHP is the remote sensor for my TV tuner card.

I love my setup as it stands but will keep looking for a better LCD and some way to shrink my projected image at a long throw from the screen. Also a DIY "anamorphic lens" is in the future plans...yet even more projects ahead for me... a "carputer" to serve up mp3's on the road.

Sooo many projects and sooo little money :dead:

Film Projector Lens

Why aren't you guys using Film Projector Lenses...It seems to me that they would be good for long throw like alot of you want...but at the same time for some reason it seems that most of you are using the OHP simple lens because it gives better results or something...any thoughts?

LCD Panel from a Laptop

I recently acquired a Compaq Presario 1200 which wont boot. I tried replacing the hard drive and generally tinkering, but figured it was pretty much gone. It has a very nice looking LCD panel which I removed and found to be a Unipac UB133X01. I'm thinking this could be just what I need to make my DIY projector, but I need some pointers on getting a signal into this panel. As I mentioned, I have the rest of the laptop to salvage from, but I have no idea how I would even utilize the video circuitry, if that would in fact be needed.

I was hoping to contact ZARDOZ since I believe he has done this, but he does not allow email.

Any pointers? I'm scouring threads and coming up with nothing.

silveradoking02 : Thanks it's been a fun project. I get a little light escape at the vents but thats all...quite tollerable.

Property: I project from 12 feet out (and have room to back up still) and view from 11 1/2 feet give or take... I have a 10 x 8 motorized screen. I have 9 foot ceilings so I have floor to ceiling and all most wall to wall screen :bawling: couldn't find a 14 ft wide screen.

At 12 ft throw I project the entire wall 14x9 (full screen mode in windows 800x600) and the parts that land on the screen are the best quality images I can get. To compensate for this I make my windows desktop "black" and tell it to hide the icons....voila instant mask (of sorts) then I drag my chosen program around to put it on my screen. I'm using a 3M 9550 and it moves light well 🙂 It will do better when I can afford to put an HID lamp into it. If you can recomend a lens that will be of use without the need for me to "radically alter my design" I'd be interested 😎
