Did anyone ever get the FF125WK?

We have yet to get them in a proper box (they are in a bit too big set of FonkenPrime at the moment, will be going in Mileva once i get a chance).

We also haven't got the reference treated pair from Bud.

These are VERY promising. FF85wKeN is a real stunner, a decided step up from the old one (which was (and still is) fantastic). I much prefer these to the FEs of similar size, The new FE83En isgood to maybe 200 Hz, relegating it to midTweeter duty, and even then...

Break In Period

You'll want break them in, they have a "secondary" sound right out of the box, it will go away though.

The pic is too long a story to type, but I have about 100 hours of building time for different boxes (the single BR box design is from Fostex).

The boxes with the clamps do not have a name; it is just a look-a-like.

Tuning continues today by changes up the strips and A/B testing; this is working pretty well; the volt meter readings are “soft”, so hard to pin point the Fs.

I'm really enjoying the 125wks, they sound very nice, natural, could use a bit more bass, hoping these boxes help/work; which are larger than the single test, BR Foster Box (with PCV).

What breaks in on speakers, the surround for the most part followed by the cone?

Your ears and brain 😉

I always thought the largest change (aside from the above), was most often attributed first and foremost to the spider, followed by the surround. This is from an increase of the driver's compliance as a result of being stretched. In my limited experience, this doesn't take long at all. Given a sine wave at Fs with the driver in free-air, with amplitude at or past the driver's xmax (but below xmech, of course), I've witnessed this break-in period occur within less than a minute. This is when the largest break-in takes place, and it often happens at the factory, long before you even get your hands on it. Subsequent break-in is usually negligible, with unit to unit variance having much more affect than further usage/break in. Again, I'm sure others will have other views, but this is just my experience.

It only takes having 2 pair of speakers, one with many hours another that is fresh to disuade one of that notion.

From a spider designer -- some of his spiders designed to take 1500 hours to break-in.

Everything that moves will take some time to break-in. Spider & surround are obvious ones. But cones, coils, formers will all change at least somewhat as they are moved. And maybe even the magnet circuit.

Results of yesterday’s tuning

Results of yesterday’s tuning, I found out one thing, its not that easy; larger strips will push down the Fs, however that reduces "vents" at the same time ~ which defeats the purpose....I don't how they design them on paper, my hat's off to the few that can design them. Maybe there is a vent calculator <kidding>

Investing in verified plans would save a lot of time, trouble and wood; of course, buying a pair is an option.

I do think these are the ball park; they sound very nice and a hint of bass, more than the previous BR boxes. There may a dip higher up, around 100hz, according to the modeling.

IMO, the imaging is the main event with full range. You can stand 6' in front of them and can not tell where the music is coming from.

Hi !

I am contemplating building a Back Loaded Horn based on Fostex Enclosure Design with Either

1. FE206En + Tweeter FT17H

or

2. FE208 Sigma + Tweeter FT17H

I intend to augment Low Frequency response with two Subwoofers attached to each speaker

Which of these combinations are preferable and should I be looking at any other Enclosure Design ?

What's neat about either combo is that you have lots of different combos to think about. You can put those drivers into a sealed or ported box and tune the subs.

or

You can build a number of different back horns and tune the subs.

or

You can put them onto a large enough open baffle and tune the subs.

I've heard neither so i can't comment which is better imo but i can say the Fostex I have all sound lively and forward. My experience is that the Sigma's sound more relaxed. So, when considering your choices i'd say it depends on your personal taste.
