My last Fostex buy was some time ago but the box was marked China. Not to rain on anyone's parade but if the current run of Fostex are made in Japan, what are the chances of radiation on 'em?

you're kidding, right? your cel phone or standing next to a leaky microwave are more likely to cause health issues

I'm looking forward to getting the Fostex 126en as a replacement unit for one I was tinkering with. Could someone report when they get their delivery of same the manufactured point of origin?
Probably from same plant(s) that were assembling the previous several generations of budget series FE / FF drivers . FWIW the last Fostex drivers I recall seeing labelled as "Japan" were Sigmas, F120A and long discontinued FW227 woofers.

OT to this query, while stumbling around the corporate site, I ran across this rather interesting gadget:

New Headphone Amp and DAC - Fostex News

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Well from the excessive caution department I'll pose the following question:

Would you get a product labeled "Made in Chernobyl?"

Should this bother me? Well I'm not a parent and have no kids or a wife expecting around here. The best cautionary statement I've heard so far is "there is no safe level of radiation."

Maybe just a Mark Audio instead. I don't raise the issue to be divisive on DIY audio. But when the issue of Japan as a source is concerned, my antennae go up.

Well it surpised me to see a diffrent surround foam of all things?I wonder what happend to the cloth surround? I wonder if fostex is going to replace one day all of there drivers surrounds with foam? Also I would like them to give me a little more for the money. Better fame, magnet, surround, coil, spiders and xmax. I know if I shoped around I could find a better drive. Fostex needs to step up and show us there true colors. I know they are not new at this. I thought they would have by now done some new research and redesigning on the Fe speakers. My fav. of all the fostex is the fe 206e. Amazeing driver in a open baffle. Very peaky and bright but, spooky real with voices a killer.

FExx6En still have cloth. FFxx5K were all foam. The FF85 was UDR (ie from a sigma) all the others an inverted half roll. The new ones all have positive half-roll (sticks out, not something i like to see, byt F120A, FX120 had that), Surround foam, from description, sounds like an advancement.

Oh crap, I'm doomed.😉

that must be what got Geoff - probably also suffered from RSI from too much mousing and clicking (hint - trying left hand mousing for a refreshing change - some things are just right-hand work)

now as far as latest FR offerings from Fostex, fairly soon we should start to hear anecdotal reports of their performance - "lackluster" engineering aside, they could pleasantly surprise us, and it's certainly great to have more rather than less choices in this category

Dave: careful with use of the words "lots of small nukes" . There are of course several more "alternative energy" sources (wind, solar, tidal, etc.) but all will have some environmental impact in development of the physical infrastructure or distribution systems.

FF165WK appears to be quite BR friendly, especially compared to the previous "K" version.

They look very interesting, very modern appearance. I think it is a shame that they cannot use a circular basket 'flange' so they can be recessed easily with a router like the Mark Audio or Visaton B200.

There is a thread on flush mounting non circular frames on DIY here. Use search for

"flush mounting... the whole story." It can be done with a router but a pattern has to be created.
