It was not connected backwards, I will carefully check the connections.

I would be very grateful for the drawing.

Also the connections from the phase inverter could be switched and give this oscillation.

double check all the wiring in your power supply, post some pics for us to see.

make sure that the HV caps are correctly wired in the power supply, and make sure the cathode resistor and bypass cap are correctly wired to ground and the heater strings. The heater circuit should have no other connections to ground, it is floating at the cathode voltage.

The 100uF 25V capacitor would explode if either it were hooked up backwards,
or if it were connected to one of the higher B+ voltages (regardless of polarity).
A shorted output tube might also cause this.
