Thanks Alex for this wise advice.but the device will become unusable
My posts are obviously not appropriate for a dac with integrated Xmos chip and not on daughter card...
Leave it to the software guys and everything is possible … till their job is done that is 😊
Alex, I take it is not recommendable to flash this XU316 with any other firmware than SMSL would provide for download?

Yes, sure. Flashing the firmware from other device is always dangerous.Alex, I take it is not recommendable to flash this XU316 with any other firmware than SMSL would provide for download?
Alex.
If the clicking is caused by the XMOS chip, then I should look for a dac that uses a different XMOS chip right?
Try another source first. Toslink from TV for instance.
BTW that Denon thingie has USB output so why use SPDIF?

Yes and now.If the clicking is caused by the XMOS chip, then I should look for a dac that uses a different XMOS chip right?
You can choose another DAC, without clicks, but it may be with the same chip - the chip is not the cause, the cause may be a bad circuit, bad PCB layout, bad firmware.
Or, perhaps, your current DAC is faulty.
Alex.
Jean-paul could enlighten us....Since he put his dac bare in another box.
It could be that there is a src chip... like AKM4137 .with mcu for the I2S selection, after which the Xmos chip is no longer to blame...?
