Ground Control to Major Tom, Ground Side
Bud will please correct me if I'm wrong but 5 or 6 years ago some guy said the when he connected the basket of his Fostex 206 to the ground of the speaker lead it sounded "better"
Bud then came up with the idea to bundle a bunch of wires together and give that a go.
Well it worked.
Then some guy, who showed up at RMAF had "stolen" Buds work and was sell it at some insane price...
Now I dont know if he really stole it or paid Bud some fee or gave Bud credit for it.
I talked to him at the show about "his" product but it seemed to me that didnt know what I was talking about.
I maybe way off base here but to me it seemed he ripped Bud off.
I left his room with my friend, Chris in tow, shaking my head in disbelief.
I tried Buds more or less formula for Ground side electrons and it worked.... very well.
But the eNabling is one of the jewels Developed by Bud.
I do have an Alpair 7 the was eNabled by Dave... Thank You very much Dave.
We shall soon race the with and without. To me it is hardly worth the time cause the enabled is clearly the winner.

Did the character in question look like the pic below? If so, he is my partner in fleece collection..... Yes, insane prices.... but then they are normally sold through the dealer networks, all of whom are interested in capitalism and it's rewards.
I receive about what I used to ask for a pair, back 5 years ago or so, but I don't have to make them up. In addition I did discover a few twists and turns that actually make surprising improvements to the original loop of wire with plastic added. And so the story goes on.....
Are you interested in bespoke cabinetry work for something only a bit more complex than what is in the picture? PM me please if you are.

I believe connecting the negative terminal to the speaker frame lowers the qts a little.
Adding a metal phase plug lowers the qts a little also.
In the 206e, perhaps lowering the qts reduces some of the climb in the frequency response.
But to me, if you get a scraping voice coil from damage, you'd be connecting your amplifier positive channel to ground, perhaps blowing that channel.

even further OT rambles
Probably why they quit doing it when actual XMAX started to show up. My first exposure to it was in a Zenith radio / record player from, I think, the early 40's that I restored. It is still playing too, though in Chicago rather than out here with me, or I would tell you the model number. It did have a cobra tone arm though and would only play 78's.
Absolutely enchanting sound, even with the high distortion and limited FR. The magnet was an Alnico permanent one and the amplifier had a copper plate under the point to point wiring. The real draw was how well the system portrayed live or recorded sound, not for the usual culprits, but because of it's completeness. All instruments were embedded in this strange field or reality. My McIntosh 110 pre, Dynaco 120, AR 3a system simply could not duplicate that beautiful, complete, tunefulness that came out of the Zenith, even though it absolutely crushed it in all of the audiophile categories. Removing that ground to ETC frame wire made the sound more one dimensional, though even then, it was better at this odd quality of reality than the more modern system.

I'd like to try those 7's in a set up like that. The sealed servo subs would be a bit more tolerant to room placement than MJK's H frame rig, would they not? But trying to find a DIY sealed sub project is difficult. The subwoofer forum is crowded with boom boom club dub designs and whale indigestion units for HT use. Sifting through all that proved fruitless in the search for a two channel hifi sub project. Hard to find something that is well behaved from 40 to 150hz.
Perhaps a bi amped conventional vented box with a quality 8 or 10" woofer would work.

CSS SDX10 is what i am playing with.

Pretty serious playing with in my play book. Absolutely the best bass I have ever heard and easily keeps up with the Alair7 with EnABL.
Since I do not know the public status of Dave's slant TL with two SDX7's driving each side I won't post a build diagram. However, I suggest to all of you, beg him for the diagram and then build yourself a pair.

eMail me, i'll send it out. I figure i have a better one for the next build 😀

Yeah,
Phil is considering Onken or Baby Onken design to team up with his new EnABL
Alpair 7. He has some Altecs 416's that do not seem to work well in an OB. He said they need that backwave to tighten things up so he is heading towards cabinet box route.

extra electrons?
I recall the original litz wire type ground device, and i dont subscribe to the explanations. However, grounding the frame has definate benefits. I attribute improvenents to the grounding of polepiece and frame eddy current potential, with a similar effect to shorting rings, except that the circulating current is no longer dissipated in the iron, but shunted to ground instead.
Edit, apologies i got my windows confused and posted in the wrong thread.
Edit #2, ok i posted in the right thread which was already a wee bit OT. lol.

Interestingly, both the ground the frame scheme and the, now, Ground Control, have the same sonic benefit, as does placing a fairly large piece of copper plate in place of either. One of these replacements with a copper plate is discussed here

Definitely need more investigation into the signal return portion of our audio systems.
