New Aleph J builder from Wisconsin, USA

If the PCB ever gets a revision, C6 C7 will be removed. They are not critical at all.

Good news. Reckon I'll keep the order in just in case (they're fairly cheap), but won't count on them being here to move forward.

Ordered the 5U metal box today. Spendy little buggers, aren't they? But the convenience of them being predrilled and part of a DIY "system" makes it worth it for expediency of build. And since it's coming from Italy, it's super exotic and stuff.

My plan in the near term is to build this amplifier and see what kind of magic I can drag out of my Klipsch speakers. I also love woodworking and plan to put together some of the Onken style speakers from Planet10. I’ve never done anything with full range speakers before and it looks like a fun experience.

For larger projects like a Linkwitz LX521, I’m quite sure the Aleph would be suitable for the smaller drivers based on what I’ve been reading about it (even though Link suggests 80W per driver). Is the Aleph suitable for those humongous 10” bass drivers they specify or is there a better option? In multi-amp configurations, of course. Definitely future state stuff. 🙂

Edit: I just re-read the LX521 description

“The LX521.4 can be built DIY from a Kit for around $3300, including a miniDSP 4x10HD equalizer/crossover. Additionally, the speaker requires between 8 to10 power amplifiers of 50 W to 200 W. ”

yes, the LX521.4 is a unique speaker with most all drivers having their own amplifier and active crossover. Most builders use Class D amplifiers which can be more compact than 10 class A amplifiers. The Aleph with be a great match for the full range onken as I am sure they will be for the Heresy's too.

Take a peek at GR Research if OB interests you. I can't recollect how many different OB designs has graced our listening space but so far these are top's.

As parts slowly trickle in, I'm planning activities in my brain so that I can do this efficiently. While I didn't see anything about it in any of the documentation, is there any need or benefit for the amp to be connected to a dummy load during testing or alignment? Or is everything done open circuit?

@flamethrower1 - PSU board arrived today. Thank you!

One board down, minus input cap C1 since I misordered it. Dimensionally too big. Somehow ended up ordering a 630V cap instead of 250. <shrug/>
