something like this?

This is also good, and I did sometimes the same.
However, I often use LPF-summer after I/V to get SE signal, to use it later in analogue volume control (VC).
And because VC also have SE output, I need or inverter to get differential signal at the balanced output.
Or to use "pseudo-balanced output" (passive RC circuit at "-" output with the same impedance as at the "+" output).

BTW, IMHO pseudo-balanced output is not worse than differential, except twice lower amplitude, put many people are prisoners by their stereotypes, and wants to have real differential symmetric output...
However, maybe I am also a prisoner of stereotypes, because I also believe that VC should be analog and not dividing the digital data by a number. But that's another story...

I think anything would work fine as long as there were no coupling capacitors causing distortion.
Since most power amps have analog volumes, I used a uC digital volume control.

It would also be fun to replace the opa1612 with an opa1622 to make a DAC with a headphone output. And the 1622 has an EN pin, so you might not need a relay (which also has the benefit of reduced quiescent current).
