Yeah, it can work well; I'm a bit of a sucker for LR6 or a notched higher order initial slope like these. Does tend to make for big networks of course. John Krutke did a really nice simple asymmetric LR4 variation with his Seas L18 design. Pity those drivers have been discontinued.
