sorry for bumping old thread but with it,i have solved an old problem in one of my amplifier .
there was a 1.8 pF capacitor between gate and plate of a triode of my inverters, and these capacitors actually made 1800pF instead of 1.8pF

I dont't understand exactly how the cap is installed, but for normal neutralizing caps 1.8nF seems to to be too bigger, the initial 1.8pF sound more realistic.
I did try netralisation caps (grid to opposite anode) on a differential splitter using 12AX7.
I could'nt get it stable, always ended up with an oscillator. I think I was using a cap of around 10pF which was probably too big.

Its hard to get a 12ax7 stable at the best of times.
I have often resorted to 12au7's to fix instability.
