I also built the Rangemaster 🙂 It's useful because it shapes the tone before we hit the amplifier. I have converted a few vintage radios into amplifiers and all of them have wide bandwidth due to large coupling and bypass caps that would need to be tuned for guitar use. Rangemaster solves that issue and can help push the amp further into distortion. I think that Brian May also used a treble booster in front of Deacy.
Btw, the more-or-less official story is that John Deacon (the bass player) found the PCB in the trash and revived it as a guitar amp. Few years ago someone recognized the PCB and confirmed that it came from the 60s Supersonic PR80 phonograph radio.

I love germanium diodes the 0A series with a whisker. And AC128 I have them with a heatsink. An 1 watt very retro guitar amplifier.

To PRR above instead of not picking,they should be inventing their own designs like that thing that looks like Vero board but you didn't have To solder the wires. But I am very pleased that you youngsters are building circuits. Like I still do now that I have retired on my farm
