Yes.
If this lowers the gain too much, you can split the resistor in two so as to 'partially bypass'.

I also built the Rangemaster 🙂 It's useful because it shapes the tone before we hit the amplifier. I have converted a few vintage radios into amplifiers and all of them have wide bandwidth due to large coupling and bypass caps that would need to be tuned for guitar use. Rangemaster solves that issue and can help push the amp further into distortion. I think that Brian May also used a treble booster in front of Deacy.
Btw, the more-or-less official story is that John Deacon (the bass player) found the PCB in the trash and revived it as a guitar amp. Few years ago someone recognized the PCB and confirmed that it came from the 60s Supersonic PR80 phonograph radio.

You can (should) leave amp as is... {snip} ...
Just calculate the input impedance 😉
About 5K.
Which makes the ~~9K of the present victim in the right ballpark.
I think this topic (same poster?) is on another forum, with a similar mix of "improve" and "let it be!" responses.
I love germanium diodes the 0A series with a whisker. And AC128 I have them with a heatsink. An 1 watt very retro guitar amplifier.
The Fuzz face and I made a couple of them that gave that fuzzy sound like a wasp in a jam jar. The circuit can be downloaded. Ignore the circuits that don't specify germanium transistors.

To PRR above instead of not picking, they should be inventing their own designs like that thing that looks like Vero board but you didn't have To solder the wires. But I am very pleased that you youngsters are building circuits. Like I still do now that I have retired on my farm
It is difficult to find anything in audio that has not been done before.
However you can always re-invent and re-flavor. These guys do some of that.

Very true. I am a valve man and on my website I published a schematic
For a 1 watt all valve guitar amplifier.
I brought a Boss DS1 on eBay and I modified the clipping stage by soldering in two germanium diodes.
For touch sensitive distortion and sustain.
