Hello and happy new year everyone. I've searched forum and found a few threads that might be relevant to my situation but wanted to ask advice specifically. I've had a pair of audiostatic DCIs since 2007 - these were sent to me in USA as the unfinished (DIY) versions direct from audiostatic. Unfortunately I had a flood event about 7 yrs ago the lower section of the speakers was immersed in water 3 inches or so, for a short while. I can't remember if i tried to play music through them afterwards but I did disassemble for painting and never got around to doing that until recently. Now that's done- on reassembly one speaker plays fine- the other creates a crackling sound on louder volume as you can hear in this video
I switched the panels out both work fine, and also verified that the 220v transformers is functioning properly so it's something to do with the electronics in that one speaker. I think this may be a defective transformer? I haven't tried measuring as yet to see if any open circuits. Appreciate any thoughts from the experts.
It's best to find the bad part by exchange, so swap the questionable transformer from the bad speaker
to the good speaker. Then if the good speaker is now bad, the transformer must be the problem.
Seems like you were pretty lucky, all in all.

Can you post a picture or describe where the discontinuity was?
Was it at the termination of the fine gauge secondary winding to the PCB solder pin?
Was it at the termination of the fine gauge secondary winding to the PCB solder pin?
Strangely - it was a cold solder joint at one transformer. Maybe varnish caused the problem or maybe it was being submerged in water. At any rate I soldered the transformer wire to the post and it was back working. As I was sorting this out I contacted Ben Peters and he was checking with the company that made the transformer. They were willing to make me a replacement but I didn’t end up needed one.

Hi there have bought a pair of audiostatic dci speakers .Played well for a few days then like yours started with distortion and not playing loudly.
Mine are a factory pair you stated were a kit pair from audiostatic.
I wish to repair mine i can cannot find a schematic or any safety details as to safety ie hv section wire which wires not to touch etc.
Also any assembly notes or paperwork you may have from ben peters tried to contact him no reply at all .Regards Alrick (spades)

Dyi meant it was just unpainted. Sounds like a transformer problem like mine. I think the distortion comes from asymmetric drive of panel. Suggest you power down wait a few hrs then get access to rear of area behind binding posts. Check resistors for any looseness or break in circuit. Depending on model you may have 2 or 4 transformers you have to test for continuity. I erased cuircuit board traces with a Dremel- easy to solder wire to re establish connection. Test for integrity of transformer windings. If you find an open loop then test the trace on top to the underside of the transformer where the lead of the windings begins. Also test the winding from the beginning ends of the windings. If you indeed need a transformer let me know I will get you my last contact info for Ben P.
