Need Advices For 3 Way Speakers Design

I need a big 3 way speakers pair for my turntable as 6" midwoofers unsatisfying with sansui amp.
It is probably easier to get a smooth midrange balance with a larger front on the speaker, especially if this is your first build, which can lead to a more satisfying bass.

When I was starting out I used to build upper and lower cabinets separately because I knew I was going to want to change them in the future.
I only have hand saw.
I use hand tools more often than power tools. My grandfather was a carpenter and taught me many things. It is easier to make complex cabinets by hand if you are patient.

I must admit those Dayton speakers' price are tempting.
Ranges from cheap (but with quality) to pricey (high end quality).
I'd say quality judging from people's testimonials.
SB speakers from germany, too bad they don't have online store although they have a distributor 350 Kms plus from my place.

Do you have copy of Dayton's 3 way crossover schematic ?
Does speaker's diameter inch size matter ?
What if too narrow and what if wider, pros and cons ?
What's the difference between subwoofer, woofer, mid woofer, midrange and full range ?
Thankyou.

I only meant he try crossover design with drivers that have pre-existing FRD/ZMA files. I did not mean to guide him to purchase exclusively from Dayton.

Best,

Erik

Hi Allen,
Thanks for the advice.
You mean i should get a midrange with bigger diameter like 7-8" ?

A speaker box has some considerations. As sound comes out from the speaker it is supported by (mainly) the front panel. At high frequencies the sound will mostly radiate forward, this tends to avoid reflections with the walls behind the speaker.

Below some middle frequency the sound wraps around the box. The sound radiating forward is less. You need to compensate for this while considering the reflections. At the lowest frequencies the reflections are beyond the scope of the box because the room is going to be in control.

The frequency where this happens is going to be related to the size of your baffle. I wasn't referring to the driver.

If you want to go through all of the work making a set of nice 3way speakeasy's it might be worth your time to get a experienced professional to do the cross over for you.
I you, I can recommend sela
