N-Chanel 600V 12A KF12N60 -- need 2-pin, but I ordered it and it is 3-pin ???

This is a MOSFET and the middle pin is connected to the tab. So if the tab is connected, you don't need to connect the middle pin.

That's kind of what I was hoping for, but the tab has heat sink compound on it, I don't know if it conducts electricity or if the middle tab is not needed at all.

I was just looking at a random TV board and I noticed some MOSFET's have 3-pins and some have 2-pins, but all are connected to heat sinks.

I replaced the MOSFET and monitor blew up
The 2-pin was a N1106.
I did not change that one, well I soldered it back in, since I had no replacement.

The 3-pin seemed to be correct.
Only difference I saw in the 3-pin I replaced, is that the original had a plastic coated tab and the one I put in was bare metal.

I saw sparks and then smoke, then no worky 😀

The plastic tab isolates it from the grounded metal of the heatsink....

Are you sure the two pin thing is a MOSFET, and not a diode which would have two pins.
