Mystery Amp....

Hello,

First, thank you for taking the time to read my post. I have an amplifier which I purchased at an estate sale last week, and I know nothing about it. I would like to purchase tubes for it, and possibly find some literature, but it is 100% Chinese. If someone could assist me in identifying it, and let me know which tubes would work best, I would be very appreciative. Thank you in advance!

Yes, it's single ended triode (SET). That 5 V. marking on the power transformer is a clue which indicates a 300B based unit. The 300B is good for 8 WPC. You need mid 90s sensitive speakers for the 300B. In addition to the sensitivity requirement, a "flat" impedance curve is in order. The amp will not exhibit the gargantuan damping factor found in SS equipment.

It is indeed 300B.

This unit appears to be an old 'Bole Audio Shenzen' model A-10 from about mid 2000s.

Here is a similar one:

BioRad A-10 300B ..with one pair of rectifier machine tube Philips 5U4G, one pair Brimar 12AU7, one pair of Sylvania 5751 (12AX7 ), a pair of Dawning 300B..

There is an article regarding this one / similar but it is in Chinese and also page 2 is behind a firewall. Here is the link anyhow: 晶莹、通透、圆滑、从容——伯乐A-10合并式胆机-【维普网】-仓储式在线作品出版平台-www.cqvip.com

I found another mention here: 300B - - [Tubebbs] |||||||||||

And another picture: 真空管音響 - 啟晟音響維修

This is the manufacturer's website but it doesn't have your particular one on it: ????--[!--????]

Lastly, I found a bit of commentary:
The Bole A--10 was introduced by Shenzhen Bole Audio.
The A-10 is the latest and improved model. 6E2, 6SL7 for preamplifier, 6L6 for 300B, and 300B-98 for the last stage, as well as the power transformer on the left, the two rectifiers 524P on the left, and the large filter capacitor, three huge transformer cover. Each group of power supplies is supplied independently. For the single-tube single-ended 300B amplifier, the A10 achieves the output power of 12W per channel which is approaching the limit.

*Caveat - any and all of this information may relate to a newer or older version of your amp. Search for yourself before splashin' the cash on tubes etc. Use '伯乐' to search and make use of google translate.

I would also suggest you have a good look at that power on/off switch on the front. Make sure you are happy with whatever voltage is in that (mains?). I'm not a fan of fragile little throw switches like that for handling mains current, but decide yourself if it is safe and sufficient.

Good luck!

A note🙁 and it's not intended to be offensive, i am seriously curious) :

There is no shortage of complete and documented tubeamps in every conceivable prica and performance range.
Why then people purchases wrecks for lots of money is a mystery. Do they have burning money in the pockets ? Is there a urge to buy just anything ? Please comment !

To be honest, the amp looks pretty clean. OP said he got it from an Estate Sale so probably got a bargain.

I would have bought it just for the chassis / transformers / miscellaneous parts if it were under say $100, as those items are pretty expensive and generally reusable for other endeavours.

Back when the economy was booming (mid 2000's) my brother's next door neighbor had an $80K sports car in the garage and all the usual toys. I went to visit my brother one day. He and the neighbor were talking in the back yard when the neighbor was bragging about the $5K stereo he had bought in Hong Kong. I asked what kind of stereo costs $5K, and he showed me. It looked a lot like this one with some wood trim on the sides. It was a good sounding unit, but worth $5K.......I don't think so.

I told him that I made tube amps and wound up selling him two for decent money (nowhere near $5K). His kid wrecked the Dodge Viper, and the whole family vanished when the economy tanked a few years later.

Thank you all very much! The detailed information and links provided (thanks avtech23) will allow me to buy the correct tubes and search for the correct speakers (thanks Eli Duttman). In answer to Peters question, I purchased the amp (and two others) for 160 bucks. The other two are very similar to this one. Granted the tubes are expensive, and the speakers are an unknown, but the price vs risk was to good to pass up. Thanks again guys!
