chips are here!

Just to keep everyone in the loop. I went to see Steve at ApexJr today to pick up the chips (see photo). He showed me a number of items that may be of interest to some of the builders out there. Remember, you will need to have all external connectors, the power plug, the toroid, the heatsink, etc. I took some pictures of some of these items (see http://picasaweb.google.com/schro20/My_refRevCPrototypeBuildII#). If you find some of them interesting you need to talk to Steve directly. I am just the messenger here (I am a satisfied customer and I want to emphasize that I receive no consideration of any kind for posting this info here).

Prices: (I hope there is no typo... Steve?)
First picture:
- gold plated RCA plugs 1.98$ for the pair
- gold plated binding posts 4.59$ pair
- dual throw 10A on/off switch 0.99$ (???)
Second picture:
- IEC plug with just a fuse holder (including the fuse) .99$
Fifth picture:
- Avel transformer 2x110 2x25 at 2A each (100VA); this could be very good for a mono block 17.95$
Sixth and seventh picture:
- IEC plug with EMI filter 2$
Eight picture:
- 10k stereo pot 7.50$
Ninth picture:
- heatsink 6x8x3/8 inch (3/8 + fins) at 3.95$

Most of you should have received an invoice by now. I sent out a load of them and may have made mistakes. Please check me on this. Thanks!

As money now comes in I will send out the big orders (there are three chunks). Hopefully this will all happen in the next two days or so.

If you know you won't follow through.... Kindly drop us a line and let us know so we can give your "spot" to the next person in line and not hold up ordering things as we wait for money to come in.

As far as parts are concerned everything looks good. There is one part we are still (again, actually...) chasing inventory. But not to worry.

As I said, Steve @ Apex.jr can "bundle" the parts needed to complete the amp so nothing would be forgotten in a onesy, twosy ordering fashion.

The 6 amp filtered IEC receptacle, and the round 10 amp power switches work GREAT. I love and use them everywhere.

The gold plated RCA's and binding posts solder well. I really dis-like components that are difficult to solder such as some of the cheap Nickel plated RCA's...

Important point. Yes. You can get all this as a package.

🙂 It took me a while though... Now I got the trick. At first I had a hard time. Seems like you really need to "wet" the component first with solder before attempting to stick anything to it. I made a mess of my first attempt. Now it works fine every time. Yes, they are very nice and very well made.

that will be great!.

toroids and heatsinks

As far as toroids are concerned, there are 3 very fine choices that I can certainly recommend.

There is Steve Dunlap (http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=1686251#post1686251). This solution will only work for people with 110V since the primary is single, not dual.

Then there is Steve from ApexJr (http://www.apexjr.com/).

And there is Antek which has a variety of toroids at different ratings (http://www.antekinc.com/).

There are likely other choices, but these have all been discussed in these pages.

Remember that you also need heatsinks. Steve at ApexJr has some nice stuff (see the photos from last night). Also Brian Donegan of TP mentioned barredboss on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/HEATSINK-ALUMIN...ryZ29402QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem). I have bought from him for another project and been very happy. Of course a search on ebay yields more heatsinks than you can shake a stick at.

payments coming in! (You guys/gals are great!)

So far we have gotten about half of all invoices I sent out last night paid. This is terrific. I am hoping that we'll get close to 90% by later today.

Basically I won't send out the big orders until Uriah and I have our financial behind covered... 🙂

There are two invoices I need to send out which I have not sent yet (some small questions), but the respective people have gotten mail from me. Uriah is going over everything again to make sure we are not dropping any balls.

Everyone else: if you think you should have gotten an invoice but haven't, let Uriah and/or myself know. Transcribing stuff from the forum to the Paypal invoices unfortunately involved a meat robot (myself) and they tend to make far more mistakes than silicon robots.... 🙂

We'll give everyone a few days to pay up and then consider the not yet paid invoices as going back to the pool. Some folks have sent me a message saying that they will pay, but only in a few days. That's cool as long as I know about it. In the interest of not keeping everyone else waiting silence will yield a time out though.

payments: still need to hold our breath a little longer...

We are near the 24 hour mark. We got 29 payments out of 49 invoices. (There are three folks who were kind enough to tell me that it'll be a couple of days!)

We are officially well past the halfway point. Let's see whether we can get at least 10 more of the outstanding 20 payments coming in tonight. At that point I'll stop having sweaty hands (and you don't want me handling components with those sweaty fingers... 🙂) and push the button on several kilo dollars worth of parts...

Go! People! Go!

🙂

my ref rev c group buy.

apparently something is fouled up... I had 'peoplepc' as provider- changed to current 'isp' provider. my new address should have been available to you. Am 'under moderation'. why? (am still looking to purchase this kit... maybe I'm computer illiterate... If so- any tutorials? -

If your source is something like at transport (not needing any additional amplification before going to the main amp) you'll just need a potentiometer. 10K is value that people have used successfully with this amp. I have hooked up a transport and used the volume control in it (at most half way up and 3/4 way up was WAY loud on my Fostex FE207e Metronomes; YMMV).

The main thread may have more info on this (though it's huge and daunting to search). But a query there might give a quick answer from someone who's used it that way.

If there are cancellations I'm definitely interested in a dual-mono kit.

Simple selector switch (Greyhill works well) and a 10-50K Ohm pot and you have a passive integrated Amp..

I used a relay input selector with the Kookaburra from Twisted Pair.

More complex and I still didn't have remote volume.

There are several remote control kits available that you could put in front of these boards in one chassis and make a REALLY nice integrated.

That would be super sweet. I got one remote kit that I put together, but haven't yet hooked up.

I noticed there are a bunch available on e-bay. Do people have other recommendations for kits? I got mine from Dantimax.

The funny thing is that not having a volume control has become my biggest problem since I entered the world of audiophile listenting. What a silly problem to have... 🙂

All of my sources are line level so I guess all I need is a potentiometer and a source selector. I'll have a look at the gain clone implementations that are out there.

Have there been any order cancellations/are there any slots available on the group buy for this "kit?"

thanks!
