Uriah,

Will it be possible to quote the board price and give us all another chance before placing the order? At the rate this is developing, you might get orders for TWO hundred boards, if that has any impact on price. I myself might be interested in a spare board if they're cheap enough. It certainly won't add to the shipping cost, and it's good isurance, just in case something disastrous happens while building. It would be a terrible shame to end up with a compromised or useless board, a bunch of parts, one finished beautiful amp, and nowhere to get another.

Perhaps you could bump the price of boards by a modest amount so you could order and keep a few spares on hand, the cost shared by all of us. I wouldn't mind.

I would still like to know what everyone intends to do with all these extra boards they're ordering.

Peace,
Tom E

What to do?
For me the extra boards are in case I decide I want addt'l working amps at some point and none are available. Like the last time I tried to get this kit. I would just order 8 kits right now, but cant swing the addt'l funds this close to Christmas.

Fredlock I am choosing board houses so PCB price is not known yet as I have not yet tested protos. Its going to be very cheap though.

Hi Udailey,

I will confirm my 2 extra boards. I'm planning to order 5 but i'm hesitating. Thanks for the follow up.

Let us know the price of the pcb once you get the price qoute before ordering. There might more interest in adding extra pcbs if its affordable.

Thanks,

I was in the middle of replying and my internet connection crashed. Then I was rewiring a power supply for a regular LM3886 and switched + and - around. Cracked the chip right open. What a night. Still, it motivates me to get other amps hooked up 🙂 Been listening to the little chippy for quite some time now and while the repair would be easy maybe its time for the F5 to meet its heatsink .

PCBs: PCB cost is covered in the kit of course. Extra PCB should be around $8 each. If I use the Malaysian folks that should be the price. I should be able to get my first glimpse of boards tomorrow. They have no silk and no mask so that the price of protos would be lower. I should post a pic for you guys.

There is a huge thread dedicated to this board and its parts. This is not the first time this board/amp has been offered. If you check the first post in this thread you will find a link to the original thread which will answer most any questions and is where questions about the amps functionality should be posted. The thread also includes schematics/BOM for this version of PCB and also it includes different board layouts for this version of the amp which can be downloaded and etched if you like to etch your own boards. I etched a pair before we started the buy.

Hi
In regards to the BOM..: We have not yet purchased the parts for the kits as I am going to test the prototype. Also not all parts are available from the same distributor. There may be a part number change. We are not going to post a final BOM until the final purchase of the entire kit contents is made so that we dont have arguments over part numbers with members in the future. If you would like a good idea of what the BOM is please search the original thread started by Mauro and referenced a few posts back.

Let me add that we are going to stay true to the last version of the board kit as done by TwistedPear. Not all parts are the same due to ROHS compliance changes and availability. But the types and the quality level will absolutely be the same as before.

Also how should I send the money?
No money yet. Only once we placed the order (and have the final numbers). Then we'll be using paypal (and paypal only).

All this will be announced here. Right now Uriah is verifying the proto boards he just got. We'll popolate them with a single set of components using the hopefully final BOM. If that checks out, we'll place the big order and at that time take orders here.

As Uriah indicated this is likely still 2-3 weeks out. Uriah and I want to do this right and not get stuck with a bunch of parts that don't fit (or a trace that's screwed up). As they say in loudspeaker building: measure twice, cut once! 🙂

Guys,
Wanted to update you. I hit a snag. Not a big one. Just a few days backward. My transformer that I bought on EBay must be for 240V because all I can get out of it is 13V. I sincerely apologize this will take a few days as I have just found this out and Antek has already shipped for today. I am speculating, but I figure once I get my order in with him (I am waiting for him to call me back) he will ship tomorrow. Its priority mail so thats fast. Hopefully Monday, most likely Tuesday will be the day that the transformer gets here.
Well, I have the power supply case ready for it so I just have to tie up the wires. This time will be nice to do a very careful job soldering and making sure everything is just right on the amp boards.
I guess its just one of those things.
