Question about the FETs.
It seems the IRF610/IRF9610 are pretty much obsolete. So I was looking for good alternatives.
Any suggestions?
I was thinking
IRF620 with IRF9620 for the PS and IRF614s for the preamp.
That way the P and N channel FETs match for the PS and you get a better spec'd part for the pramp. The IRF614 seems like a better part than the IRF610, lower internal capacitance especially.
Any thoughts?
Cheers,
Russ

Nelson has said that IRF510 is as good as 610 if not better, at lest if my memory is still with me. I have 510's for my bosoz.
www.elfa.se has IRF610/510/9610/9510
price for IRF610 is about $1 for quantity under 50 and $0.5 for q. under 250 and $0.4 above.
For IRF9610 the same is about $2.2/$1.1/$0.9

IR lists the IRF610 and IRF9610 as active parts - percieved shortages may be due to the upcoming lead free requirement. the IR part number for the lead free 610 is IRF610PBF. The 9610 equivalent is IRF9610pbf

Right I know you can get them, but many of the sources say it is being phased out, and is not suitable for new designs.
Also It looks like some parts just have better specs. Espcially in terms of capacitance.
exellent job Russ !
i prefer 2+2
maybe the Lovoltech Jfets are a good choice javascript:smilie('😉')
see the new F3 on First Watt
and the statement from Mr. Pass on the D1-Stage-Thread .

Hi folks,
I've been following this from the beginning and am quite interested.
I may be able to help out on a parts GP to a certain extent. The question of IRF610 availability has come up and I 'may' have a source for new surplus in a quantity that 'may' be able to fulfill almost any size gp. I think they are 'IR' but possibly Fairchild IRF610b. I will probably be able to get them for less than 20 cents per ..usd.
Brian Donegan,
I see you are in MA. Well, me too. I could hand deliver to you in the event that it could all work out. If you have any interest I would like to see if I can get them and help out. Drop me an email if interested and I will do further research.
Regards,
Marc

edit: oh..this assuming you planned a parts kit as well. I thought you did but I may be mistaken

What old Hitachi Jfet devices would work here? I might be able to get some of those, but dont know the devices to look for. A few model numbers would be very helpfull🙂maybe the Lovoltech Jfets are a good choice javascript:smilie('')
That is cheap, for sure😱I will probably be able to get them for less than 20 cents per ..usd.

Or Toshiba, or some other brand for that matter 😉What old Hitachi Jfet devices would work here?

OK guys,
I can get ~500 IR IRF9610 for less than .20 ea. Should I get them. LET ME KNOW>

EDIT IRF610 not 9610

Finally got a chance to look over the spec sheets, and it looks to me like the 620/9620/914's will substitute very nicely, especially that 914. They have my thumbs up!

Status of boards
This thread has really slowed down in the last week. Are the circuit boards still going to be available some time in the future?
The circuit is so nice looking, it has to be an excellent beginning for a preamp.

I think Russ is busy with NS-10 !!

Hey guys, I am just waiting for my FETs to get here so I can make a prototype. Once that is done Brian and I will get some made and offer them on the twisted pear site. 🙂
Cheers!

I am sure the Twisted pair, are working on a prototype for this preamp, by now! Let them have a bit of Labour-freedom, so to speak🙂 If there are no more suggestions for improvements, lets just move on to building a proto! Any suggestions? This thread has really slowed down in the last week.
