Sorry that it didn't work out, Will! Still, I think that box is a good lookin' funky design. If it's any consolation, I got that Phoenix 7.2 lcd I was talking about and I killed it 15 minutes after getting it out of the box. How? Well, it runs on 12v DC current, so I go and get an AC to DC converter. Switch it to 12v and get a slightly garbled picture. Getting frustrated, I found a 20v DC power block lying around and tried that.
It worked, nice bright picture....and as I'm dreaming of what kinda cabinet to build around it, I watched my nice clear picture turn into an x-ray and POP!!!!😱 SMOKE!!!!
sigh....at least I still have my QA-1650 and OHP, ghosting and all 🙄 🙄

I did that on a laptop one time - grabbed the wrong power cable
- I had a few laying around - plugged it in and the light came
on and the screen tried to, then nothing - I fried the power
board inside the laptop - I looked at the adapter it said 30v
the laptop was 20v - I had grabbed a power adapter for a printer
I got lucky - it only fried the power board - and I was able
to order a working used one
I did not think the QA-1650 had ghosting
I have not saw any in mine yet - But I have just watched a few TV
shows and 4 movies - no high speed stuff yet, but no ghosting
- How bright is yours - may be mine is not bright enough to
see the ghosting - I had problems with light that got scattered
and could put my hand and fingers front of the last lens and it
would go away - I used some black tape to make a small
square on the mirror and it made the image look a
lot sharper but I lost some brightness - It looked a lot
like ghosting

it's funny, I took the lcd apart last night and the POP I heard must have been a capacitor (?); there was a lot of what looked like little bits of shredded cardboard and a long metal cap rolling around inside the case. LOL...maybe I shouldn't be trying this diy stuff if the only scientific words I know are "do-hickey" and "thing-a-mah-bob". Anyhow, out of curiosity, I found a 9v DC adapter and plugged it in, and low and behold, the backlight came on and I had a faint image that only took up a small portion of the screen.
About the QA-1650...maybe ghosting isn't the right word, it's more like a blue-ish hue on the left edges of everything, people, buildings, etc... I like the QA-1650 a lot aside from this problem. I've never noticed any blurring during action scenes and the screen door effect isn't that bad on a 79" x 110" viewing area (basement wall). The wife says it isn't that noticable, but I'm one of those types that fixates on the little things 🙂
Right now, I'm using an OHP that is putting out 4,000 lumens via a FXL lamp. I try and keep the mirrors and the triplet clean clean, but there's always that blue hue.
I don't think there's enough room in the OHP to mod it with a brighter/longer lasting bulb, so I'll probably make a custom cabinet before too long. I got the widescreen LCD because I thought it would be nice to use the anamorphic option on the dvd player to increase the picture and not have it distort the image. Oh, well, back to the drawing board 😀

Capacitor may be - sounds like it exploded - I dont see that
often, some times they leak - or swell up - some of them have
a brown paper thats folded over and over - may be thats what
your seeing - if you could find the numbers off the exploded
capacitor case - you might be able to replace it - and it might
work again - I have tried that on motherboards with little
success - by the time it kills a capacitor its usually to
late and other stuff is fried
Thats not happening on mine - butit's more like a blue-ish hue on the left edges of
everything
I have seen it on some laptops - were there would be a dark
screen with a bright object moving it would leave a blue
after image in the dark background - must be the type of
LCD - Its funny I never thought about it till just now -
I am going to look it up on Google
